Why would an ordinary consumer ever want to pay for retail goods in a currency other than the one that their salary comes in? Amazon is happy to eat credit card fees, and if they really wanted to avoid that they could let customers link th

I was pretty impressed by the Falcon AI earlier this year. He actually used modern reinforcement learning to train from 0 instead of the crappy built in AI. Also, his AI was limited to near-human reaction time (10 frames) which led to a m

It is interesting just how ahead of their time these laptops were. I wonder if it's even possible to make such an innovative laptop in 2017; it seems like all the easy wins have been claimed. Also notable: they hold their value except

It seems like there's value in rote practice of tasks for improving focus and discipline. I'd argue that's part of why learning piano helps kids so much. I can't name any specific reason to practice cursive though.

It's weird to see articles like this not even mention the massive sampling bias. Most Seattle devs work for Amazon or Microsoft, whereas SF is a tech hub filled with startups and other low-paying opportunities.

Solid description of the important part of this essay. The automated generation of content that perfectly matches to humanity's unconscious desires is terrifying to watch. I also worry that it's inevitable. Even if YouTube or Po

Why not just fork the repo? I’d be annoyed if software I depended on was taken over by new management and messed with with.

Facebook obviously doesn't do this, but I wonder how this will end. Lots of people wanting to regulate Facebook right now, maybe some ineffective laws will get passed.

I imagine it's a huge upgrade being able to design with computer modeling. I honestly can't fathom how they calculated supersonic airflow when designing the Concore.

It's crazy how the first iPhone is just ten ICs crammed together, vs now when they fab their own parts on one tiny board. Really shows how ahead of its time the first iPhone was.
