Yeah, it's really bizarre that YouTube is content to constantly struggle with ad revenue, when most of their top users are making orders of magnitude more money through patreon. There's precedent too since twitch has had this exac

Most of the internal talk I've seen favors Vancouver. It's geographically close (with excellent transportation), is big but still has room to grow. Canada in general is a good choice because they have more lax limmigration polic

I don't think I'll be able to convince you otherwise, but this would read to most people as two assholes arguing with each other. Also OPs explanation of why UNIX == POSIX was pretty confusing, and I had to look up more informati

This follow-up shows a lot of maturity. Both sides are obviously at fault here, although you instigated it. I suspect you could still get the internship if you send an apology like "Sorry for my previous emails they were out of line.

I'm not an expert, but it seems within the realm of possibility. Despite what hackernews thinks, the forkers have a somewhat reasonable argument, in that Vagg did violate the Code of Conduct (because it is extreme), and the committee

It's insane that we might reach a point where people install different branches of a project based on their political leanings... I think the main takeaway here is that a Code of Conduct, while valuable, has to be treated carefully. A

I bet you could do this by looking at all the Yelp reviews for an area over time. Some combination of average review score and total review quantity would produce a legit metric. But Yelp and Google's APIs aren't really designed

It's funny how open the market for browser automation is. Everyone needs to switch off phantomJS in the next few years and is looking for the easiest option. Sadly, there's probably no money on the line. But you will get your bu

I have much more trust in a company's product if it's their main source of revenue. Dropbox would probably die if they lost all their desktop users, but there's really no reason Microsoft even cares about this. Anecdotally, O

I do think there's a lot of value in teaching logic and algorithms as a system for thought. Coding might be a more direct way to get to it than, say, calculus, which is what is generally used. But teaching kids java and databases is p

The history is accurate and maybe that would've happened 20 years ago. But I wonder if globalization + the internet have ended these secret coups. I really can't imagine a world in which the CIA overthrows an entire government w

I believe they also differentiate between immediate right-swipe, and profile view before right-swipe. Sometimes my top picture changes and I haven't had any matches in a while. Or they're just fucking with me to keep my attention.

I strongly disagree with them using this for messenger. Facebook has a real opportunity to take over for text/email, and introducing censorship would be very unfortunate.

The next level would be a desktop app that syncs up with your phone and flashes the screen at a precise time while you record video. Then monitor lag could be tested without expensive hardware. But maybe UNIX time isn't precise enough

I honestly don't think that machine learning deserves to be on this timeline. Despite the hype, we haven't seen much indication that it's anything other than a fad, propped up by its ability to do more complex statistical reg

Current interviews don't really encourage critical thinking. If 2 candidates are given a question, and one can regurgitate a memorized algorithm immediately, he's probably the one to get the job. Plus, nerves and time pressure m
