I think the point is that it doesn't sound like Apple did anything to this person. This person apparently ran into a bug and it took Apple's engineers a few days to get a fix out. I do agree, though, that I wouldn't suggest h

Yeah, people had already been using the private APIs on jailbroken phones. That's still a pretty ambitious timeframe even just to get out all the supporting infrastructure, though.

How did it bring you around? This piece doesn't even contain any concrete accusations. The headline claims that Twitter is waging war on India...somehow, and the rest of the article just assumes this is a) a meaningful claim, and b) tr

The blanket rule is because even "good" necroposts tend to encourage bad ones. If I'm on an active forum and I revive some ancient discussion with a useful comment, lots of people will click on the thread and try to argue wit

I disagree that it's actually redundant. It's like if back in 2004 somebody said "Apple computers are overpriced and underpowered." Technically, "Apple" in that sentence stands for "Apple Computer," s

"If you want to inherit from an object, just create a class based on that object" is a description of how you'd imitate prototype inheritance in a language that only has class-based inheritance. It does not mean you're a

I don't think you have that quite right. Objects don't inherit from other objects in Python — you can't do `class Foo(object())`, for example. Python has class-based inheritance.

This viewpoint seems a bit defeatist. It's true that even buying local rarely avoids 100% of interaction with overseas companies, but there's a lot of room between 100% and 0%. If you just don't want to think about it, that&#

"Term of art" means that it has a technical meaning in a specific field, while "idiom" just means that a phrase has a meaning. For example, "a dime a dozen" is an idiom but not a term of art. If you wanted to a

These sorts of arguments always fall a bit flat with me for one simple reason: They assume a false causality. Our forbearance doesn't force others to reciprocate. If we try to stop people from encouraging the mass murder of protesters,
