I would argue that the hackers haven't gone away as much as they've completely been outnumbered by the non hackers.

I agree. Most orgs will say they want more/better documentation, but their actions (or lack thereof) shows the opposite.

This might get me to buy more games. Let me start off by saying I'm a very casual gamer, playing only a few hours a month tops. My two friction points are the return policy, which has a 2 week limit, and the huge download sizes for gam

It may be true, but as of now there's a lot of arbitrage to go around for those who earn a hcol wage and move to mcol or lcol areas.

Does anyone give more than the minimum effort when they find themselves with a 2% to 4% raise, if any, in their yearly reviews, even if they are in the office?

The way I've always thought of stuff like this is to offer a free tier and a paid tier. Free tier gets access to most of the stuff and paid access gets you the premium things. You can also do a cheaper tier and premium tier if you'

Dealing with bureaucracy the biggest one for me. I'd love to move abroad, but almost all countries have limited tourist stays of 90 days. I don't want to be moving around every 3 months.

If you see other threads about hiring, it appears many people are getting jobs solely based of their network. This is much easier and faster to build in person.

Fee seems high, but if it works it works. Allowing free access just lets in all the spammers, the looky loos, and just too many people to form great relationships.

Interest rates will eventually come down again. Just have to keep the skills sharp and pick up a couple more in the AI field. All will be alright for those who do.

Thinking of alternatives to Git reminds me the different ways to install Python packages, all the different JS frameworks. God, please don't let there be 4-7 semi popular different ways of source control. There's already so much t

I've kept my phones for around 5 years before replacing them. Especially now, wfh I'm always a few seconds away from my laptop. The most usage I get out of the phone is when on the throne, reading HN or browsing memes.

Starts off with premise of why performance matters and why you should care. Proceeds to only top 10 biggest tech companies as examples. Are you working in a FAANG? If not, this article does nothing to convince me that I should care about pe

The question no one is asking, how much money are they saving by kicking out the moochers? I'm not surprised if a significant number of Netflix users are sharing their accounts with others. If this move ends up saving them money, then.

Some hobbies are much harder to do than others. For those, the doing will be a lot less than the discussing. Examples, scuba but don't live close to water, flying, but can't afford to do it frequently, etc.

This. My plan is being financially independent enough to take several months of breaks in between jobs and having the time to look for environments I really enjoy working in.

If users hate large file sizes, they should just stop buying them. Unfortunately, hitting the bottom line is really the only way to get this resolved.

This is understated a lot. Sometimes you work hard, not for the company, not for your boss, but for your coworkers sitting in the trenches with you. It pays off in terms of the relationships built. I would not recommend/refer mediocre

This is a really good idea, but all the negative comments in this thread proves the point that receiving help for mental health has a negative stigma associated with it. When we can't solve a technical problem, we often talk to others

Can confirm. My mind tends to race sometimes, especially after caffeine consumption. It's hard to get it to "shut up". I held my breath as a simple experiment and it helped quiet down my mind. I actually learned this trick fr

I've been asking myself, why waste time setting up a NAS when there are cloud based alternatives for storing data. Then, news like this comes along and reminds me why.

I could see this being very useful. I uploaded a 70MB xls file to Sheets and Chrome says that tab is 600MB to 800MB of RAM. I ran a Find operation and that spiked up to 1.2GB of RAM. How 70MB of data turns into over 1GB of RAM is beyond me.
