On the other hand, I’ve seen things such as e.g. approaches which amount to caching, being put forward as ML for database performance optimisation. So there’s also quite a bit of in your face ML that is not even ML to counter the transparen

I can see the point around expensive row level security. Cannot see how it is harder to manage than to monitor though. Designing around risk acceptance of manual detective rather than preventative controls does not make this approach genera

That should be captured in security, right? I.e. if someone has access to data the assumption is they are able to read it. Security audit can be done without the grain of select statements but rather the grain of changes to provisioning. Fu

I think the point the gp was making was with regards to sanctions from private entities. My note here is that while the scale of private entities sanctions currently is novel, they themselves are not, e.g. boycotts have happened in the past

Not sure what you mean. The fact that in the last century or so wars have been having disproportionately high numbers of civilian casualties does not mean that this is acceptable. When is it necessary to kill civilians and what makes it a n

Initially I was looking at this situation as a Napoleonic move, and it most probably still is. Nevertheless, to add some nuance to it, the situation, as it unfolds, plays to the core argument by Putin, in between the anti-nazi fusion with Z

Good advice but the reality I usually experience is one where processes and policies go to die in a folder on a “portal” that no one even has access to anymore. Good processes become embedded in tools and follow the lifecycle of their host.

Smart people also don’t want to be spending their time assessing the risks of unknown situations. E.g. something I came upon recently when someone asked if they could work remotely from abroad for a while. Sure, from a technical contributio

Plenty non tech monopolies out there with more than 1bn revenue. Also distribution is not just relevant on the basis of data volume but also e.g. to accommodate variety of use cases. Don’t get me wrong, Postgres is a great tool but the mome

So that’s not about relative quality of poetry over time. It is about signal vs noise. Fundamentally this is a strategy of waiting for history to filter out the noise. With 1% you are taking a pretty low pass filter, though. In my experienc

Do you subscribe to any poetry publication? Poetry, New Yorker, three penny review and plenty other big and small publications have great contemporary poems. I would rather argue we are much worse in reading poetry now.
