It's just really distasteful and unoriginal. I cringe inside whenever I see a Ghibli-style profile picture. Have some originality for god sake. Leading by example by not condoning copying artists' styles would be a simple polite g

My understanding of Passkeys used to be that they were hardware-bound, so stored in the system’s TPM, Secure Enclave, whatever. Somewhere they can’t be retrieved. As soon as I realised that wasn’t the case I lost all interest in Passkeys. W

I’ve been thinking about this problem from the other side of the fence: what if I use the provider’s domain and the provider goes away? Not likely in the case of Gmail, but I use Proton Mail, and frankly don’t entirely trust them not to dis

I'm glad the Mastercard-Visa duopoly is finally getting some attention, these companies shouldn't be allowed to exercise the financial control they do. Payment infrastructure is not a free market - you can't just choose to pa

This is concerning, I switched to their Authenticator a few days ago, being a Proton customer already. This is the kind of mistake that should not be happening in their products.

There’s also doomscrolling. I genuinely think a large portion of Gen Z would rather stay in bed watching Instagram reels than go out to a bar or club. I’ve been wondering recently what impact banning social media would have on birth rates.

I think NVIDIA's is absurder. Higher than Apple, Microsoft, Google. They're the number one for AI chips, but they're not the only company that can make them.

I appreciate that on a site like GitHub which is massive and complex, it's not as simple as just writing some code to garbage collect commits and drop them. It could have far reaching consequences. However, GitHub have had so many year

I did a little experiment but I probably need to write a script or tool to ease the friction. If I want to work on a new project in Zed, assuming each project has its own container, I have to create a container with the mount, have it publi

I’m considering containerising all of my development environment, and having Zed/VSCode work in the container via SSH. Obviously containers are not completely blast proof but it would give me peace of mind knowing that the LLM can’t go

Go still has one of the best supply chain security stories of any language.

If anything it makes me hate it more, because now you have a variety of build systems, even more node_modules heaviness, and ample opportunities for supply chain attacks via opaque transpiled npm packages.

I'm happy to see some LLM tooling in Go, I really don't want to touch anything to do with JavaScript/npm/Python if I can help it. I'm guessing building this is what Charm raised the funds for.

There’s only one way unlimited plans work: either the seller gets scammed, or the buyer does. When companies sell unlimited plans, they’re making a bet that the average usage across all of those plans will be low enough to turn a profit. Th
