Steam is the most reasonable DRM I've seen. I don't mind it at all.

You did that in 1996?

It might work "awesomely" one some platforms, but the Nautilus integration is pretty buggy - it was a nightmare to try to get it working on my Ubunutu 09.04. I ended up having to just use the command line utility a user wrote.

" even with premium parts"? The more the components cost, the more you save building it yourself. Dell makes the most sense for cheaper machines.

It's news because HN lets you resubmit dupes after a year has passed since the last time it was up.

Both. Mint is by far the best known name in the segment, and now it has Intuit's name and dollars to push it.

I was hoping it was a typo.

Mint is likely going to rot, though, once most of the original people leave. That should give more than enough room to catch up. The hardest thing to fight will probably be the name recognition.

Yodlee's frontend was ugly, clunky, and unfocused. Probably still is. UI was not their strength.

If your university doesn't have MSDNAA - and almost any decent CompSci/IT/etc dept should have it - you can get MSDNAA through IEEE. I don't think there's any program requirement for IEEE other than being a current student. IEEE student me

I've found very few places that are good about blocking all of the disposable e-mail domains - I can't recall ever finding a site that blocked all of them.

Wesabe is not a good competitor IMO. When it first released it had a lot of promise (philosophy of data freedom, etc). Unfortunately that's pretty much completely been lost, which I guess to some extent because some of it was too hard to be

I'm not a security person - you're saying hashing is useless because an attacker could capture passwords before they were hashed? I think maybe you're over-thinking things. There have to be compromises that don't involve getting access to t

I'm pretty involved with the tournament operation side of Magic - it hasn't died down, it's done pretty much nothing but grow. It's always bigger than it ever has been. Magic Online is actually quite worthwhile, especially if you don't have

I volunteer for a huge corporation, along with hundreds of other people, to do things that couldn't be done if they had to pay employees. It's a hobby that has aspects of a side-job. I don't see why it couldn't work for Cuban. (Interestingl

Human psychology doesn't work that way, unfortunately - the most a person is willing to pay is generally not knowable ahead of time.

They always say they are - they spam craigslist every week like clockwork - but I haven't heard of anyone being hired in quite awhile. There were rumors of a undisclosed hiring freeze awhile back; I wonder if things ever got better.

The type of Hungarian notation Spolsky uses at Fog Creek is different than the Hungarian once pushed by Microsoft. He goes over that in the linked article. I'm not defending it - I've never tried it - but it obviously works for Joel. Also,
