Craigslist is actually the perfect example. No need to grow 1000% a year and no external VCs to push you to do so. They handle probably a factor of thousands more requests than Meetup and I think they are still less than 50 people?

Prices should go up and up on average since there is on average a national inflation of about 3%. If it goes up about 3% only you just come out about even (well actually you lost "purchasing power" since buying a house comes with

This is a common fallacy. Lower mortgage rates mean that houses are more expensive as other bidders are able to qualify for the same mortgage rates. There is actually quite a lot of papers showing that it's better to buy at a high mort

I disagree, Slack became the online equivalent of "butts in seats" and in those turbulent times it has more potential than ever to be wrongly used. I think it's partially the company culture that should make it clear that no

I have said this before but the way Slack is used today is most of the time a net negative of the modern workplace. And I will agree that it's mainly because people use it badly but Slack encourages to use it as a dopamine fix contribu

It is also a good reminder that the moral standards back in those days were completely different and I think we cannot judge those books with the moral standards of today.

I spent hours of my childhood reading Asterix, Tintin and Gaston [0]. Each had an amazing slightly different universe. Now living in the US it always amazes me how different the Comics culture over here is. [0] https://en.wikiped

The issue is that we still treat prisons as a medieval revenge tool instead of a reinsertion phase for the prisoners. American prisons are a shame and there is absolutely no way that convicts come out of it ready to participate to society.

In a lot of places being busy is a proxy of being productive and Slack allows you to display how busy you are by constantly chatting in channels. They also added some dopamine based notifications. At the end of the day it probably makes yo

Couchsurfing was awesome and partially killed by Airbnb. It was an amazing concept that I used both as a an host and as a guest. Airbnb pushed for the commercialization of every single Square meter (Thanks to VC $$) and now this high trust

Thanks for the good overview. It's exactly what I thought: a mix and match of different incentives that makes it pretty much impossible to change the current system.

Hopefully someone "disrupts" the events and ticketing industry. Buying a ticket to anything has been hell lately. Terrible UX and 10/20$ of added random fees (Ticketmaster, Live nation, etc ...). I sadly bet that this is more
