Good post, this is exactly where i'm starting. After many years of being lazy, plus having to move because of divorce, i'm simply unfit so last week I decided to just go for a walk at 6am. When I was a teenager I used to walk/

According to the BBC there was a large consideration paid for by the UK Government. This isn't a criticism of them btw - it's exactly the sort of thing we should be subsidising - but it may explain it.

It would be nice if they provided a route to getting old GAFYD users over to a standard Google Account. I've still got old accounts with photos etc on that I cannot move, and the only reason I moved from GAFYD is because of so much fun

Exactly. We use it in the pipeline for building the AMI unfortunately at my current place but it's not optimal.

I did Teradata stuff right at the start of my career 28 years ago, it's not been on the CV for 20 and I still get cold-called for Teradata roles.

Yup, that's the best use-case. The more that cloudy / container stuff takes over the less I use Ansible tbf.

I had that too. A 14 year old account, with Google Cloud and Google One billing, plus many Google Store purchases and they still wanted me to prove my age. WTF?

Yeah makes sense if it's the schema handlers. I'd just not be as assertive if I was them that something was installed if there was overlap.

I've no idea whether it works, but they misidentified many apps I don't have installed (Postman, Express VPN, Notion, Figma, Hotspot Shield) It does do the popup for VSCode asking if I want to open links there, which I do have ins

Boris had nothing to do with this ruling. Why crowbar politics into this discussion?

My old boss Mike Grimwood used to work with him. He had many tales of building desks for stars and getting absolutely smashed with them. Sounded like a great time to be alive.

Agree with this - my step-son is 18 and wouldn't even consider going to a nightclub regardless of Covid. For his generation it seems to be standard to find a house where the parents are away for the weekend and invite everybody + their

Does anybody remember a page on, I think, CNET which had all the worst corporate anthems ever? The KPMG one was the worst.

They were early in doing decent userland tooling around cgroups etc. Docker Hub too was a genius idea. However their engineering went to crap - tonnes of issues with new versions where networking and other stuff broke, plus the whole "

Yeah. Ubuntu package stuff that is simply broken, which has caught me a few times. RHEL at least support most of their packages. There's a use case for both distros, but I can rely on RHEL / Centos more.

Are we comparing apples with apples here? I get confused about the stats. Originally the dailies were deaths in hospitals, then it changed. So the question is - is the 30k vs 50k comparable? Are they measured in the same way?

My X1C6 is ~2.5 years old, and I still get around 7 hours of battery. Screen is usually quite low brightness as I live in the UK and it's mainly terminal/VSCode/browser. I used to have a couple of things tweaked like TLP etc

AFAIK - Hangouts is going to be nuked at some point. Meet is for gSuite, Duo is the product for consumers. TBF both Meet and Duo have been awesome, Hangouts has withered on the vine. It could have been a unified solution but... Google.
