Why would that be minimal? If I’m your competitor, I’m going to sign up my colleague, and have him report you for spam. And I’m going to loop this until you lose your mailing privileges.

For me, yes. I use Python plenty too, but Awk is great for a tiny state machine, and unique in the ease of setting up an event stream view of a text file. I could use Python, add a loop and a big set of conditionals—but a one page awk progr

But the CPU and chipset need to talk to all those ports. If any USB-C port can suddenly need to do Thunderbolt 3, that’s ridiculous bandwidth requirements. You probably can’t do that to 8 ports on anything.

SSH Keys are for login authentication. If tomorrow we crack RSA-2047, you can replace them before we get to 2048 bits. GPG Keys are for secrecy. If the adversary gets a ciphertext, he can hold it until 2030 and decrypt then. Very different

When I switched around Red Hat 6 (not RHEL 6), the difference in quality of uninstall scripts and dependency management was stark: you can install and uninstall Debian packages without changes to your system. They test for this. If you need

Fifteen? I read that by 1991, latest. It’s nearly thirty. And it’s just what I thought of here: this article has the same simple clarity.

That’s funny. Disk Utility is the successor to Disk First Aid, which has been available since the mid-80s. It’s not the iOSification; it’s deep Mac tradition.

Nah. It’s a bug in a critical security system that made it to release. It should have been caught by automated testing—can you grep for the password, or decrypted volume encryption key, in an encrypted filesystem? When you change the pass

Dijkstra famously compared this to astronomers who have no interest in telescopes or observing. I love theory, would happily retire to it—but I can’t see how anyone could have the right imagination calibration without lots of practice.
