Correct. People also assume that you’re always going to get paid more at a new gig. This just isn’t true in SV. If you joined a startup and it rocketships - I’ve seen many smart engineers stick around for years just because they have a 7-fi

What’re you guys working on that this is a regular occurrence? I just never run into walls like this when coding stuff up.

This happened to folks before WFH. Often you’d join a team that was full of people 40+ who had no interest or commonalities with someone in their early 20s (and no interest in bridging the gap). These things happen in office too. It’s a com

Stock appreciation... I was one of these people who saw 7 figure TC and I was just a senior IC. So, you're wrong. It's extremely common in SV. You have to be past $3.5m income to be in the 1% here. You think it's only execs

Yeah - the fee should always be quite punitive. I’ve only had one host cancel on me last minute and it was very disrupting to our trip because nothing was available. We had to book a horror story of a place on VRBO (which I would say is muc

Considering it’s a 20+ year project in the making and has an expected operation of 5-20 years… I don’t think it’s entirely ridiculous to look at it this way.

Varies a lot. I’ve seen people at smaller public companies get $5m+/yr offers and they managed maybe 15 people total. SV is weird - some people get really big offers. With crazy stock valuations and growth - some people do be getting b

Again - this is because the public thinks abortion is a finicky woman choice being dramatic in the final moments. They’re uninformed and don’t know anything about abortion. It’s like asking the public about monetary policy - they have opini

Is this as financially viable as being an engineer at FAANG? E.g. you’re getting paid $400k+ liquid for senior/e5 roles.

The other issue is that most Americans also don’t know anything about abortion. They have opinions about things they know nothing about - when confronted and informed they turn out to be even more left leaning than initially thought. They t

This really varies. Among managers I personally know - we all agree that even if X engineer is basically contributing less to the team significantly… it doesn’t matter because they’re underrepresented and the company would never fire them.

You're trying to argue that pay gap exists due to societal issues which push women into lower paying professions. I'm not arguing against that. I'm saying that men and women who push against norms will not experience a pay ga

Tech is a high paying profession. Women tend to be hypergamous. Thus, their male partner will earn even more than their high paying professional self. This means that they often can drop out because the husband earns a fuck load. Women wh

Just to be clear - the pay gap mostly disappears once you control for field, position, and experience. Women aren’t getting paid substantially less for the same job while having the same credentials. Also - even in fields like medicine… the

$200k isn’t enough to buy anything in SF though. Also - I know a lot of people making $200k/yr and they spend relatively little. Honestly - you sound really out of touch and like you know no one who makes $200k/yr in SF. Where wou

It was not focusing on finding a similarly earning partner as to why I’m divorced now. Emotionally - I’m a catch. My ex wife and most women agree. Physically - I just don’t match with what most women want these days.

I’m 5’10” and 150lb - weight loss isn’t the issue. Body composition and gaining muscle mass is all I need to do. (I mean - gain a few inches of height would be nice but I’m not willing to go that far) Surgery would help with facial issues.
