Actually i just checked their entitlements on github and it is set to NSFileProtectionComplete. Seems stranger than I thought edit: After diving into code, they are using NSFileProtectionCompleteUntilFirstUserAuthentication for their DB fil

This seems to be problem with Signal to be honest. AFAIK you can always use more secure data protection classes for your database[0] They are using the default one, which is allowing AFU attack. [0] https://support.apple.com/

I think when people thinking blockchain they are thinking in line of bitcoin, so it is confusing. Better to think as "signing messages". also better to think as offline on some steps.

Easiest option is not to show rating till you get lets say 20 ratings. But mostly on the app side, reviews are favored to 5 stars. (As you can trigger review request) Main problem is fake reviews.

App size is a problem, but as far as I know only challenge there is cellular download size. (thats why in your examples, dropbox and ebay doesn't care about install size) Main approach to this problem in industry is when you approach c

Unfortunately I cannot share any data from the accounts I manage (mainly competitors are the shady ones), but simply you can go let's say instagram or facebook, and log the ads you saw (without clicking) in a single session (like first

For sure there are some advertisers, they would not be able to advertise if there is no individual targeting. Problem is for one of those honest businesses, there are 10 dishonest ones abusing the individual targeting.

I bet for every one small business like your friend, there is 10 scammy business (something like selling 1$ item for 20$ with 40% discount) who is betting 10x more than your legit friend for impressions.

But the problem is we are not getting targeted ads. We are getting semi-targeted ads. If someone is paying 10 usd for conversion and you have chance to convert 1%, another one has 90% chance to convert but paying lets say 0.10 usd, even if

If I clicked the ad, thumbs up, if not thumbs down. With appropriate weights this can work. But.. Ad networks will never implement this, cause priority there : 1) ad network 2) advertiser 3) publisher 4) user This bumps user from 4th place

yeah I replied in sibling thread, mostly topic based instances and federation is the problem. (when identity is bound to host) When I first saw Mastodon and topic based servers, I was thinking "photography" hosts will federate bet

Actually that was exactly my point, you managed to separate identity and content by using your own instance. But for average user this will be pretty hard.

Yeah but I am more thinking about not hosting your Instance angle. Mostly topic based federation is what I am against. (When bundled with identity)

I don't know much about pleroma, I will definitely check. But when you self host your Mastodon, aren't you losing the benefit of local. What is the point of local if I will be alone there?

Sorry maybe I couldn't explain my point clear. Think Mastodon instances (hosts) as reddit subreddits. Basically you are creating an account in not universe (reddit) but on instance (subreddit) And this subreddit is deciding, which othe

I guess problem lies in this part mainly. Choosing host is more important than it should be. Mainly because hosts are trying to do 2 things at the same time: being identity provider and being some kind of content host in federated environme

Actually I don’t agree with zero-sum argument, but your example seems to be equally wrong. Every widget you sell with advertisement is one widget sold less for competitor (or something totally else) Advertisement is not increasing the money
