I agree with you that sexism exists in tech, but it seems like a huge leap to say it's the primary cause of the gender gap. Gender imbalances exist in many professions (teaching, nursing, social work, counselling). I'm not sure se

I'd also be interested to know what MBTI type other HN readers are. I keep switching between INTJ and INTP every time I do the test.

As I understand the situation, it was an internal memo to try and open up a debate within the organisation. It was never intended to impersonate the company or be externally distributed. It contained nothing extreme or explicitly hateful. An

I have no problem, in principle, with the prevent strategy. If impressionable children are at risk of being brainwashed into a dangerous ideology, then the state should step in, just as it does with any other form of abuse. Hasn't &quo

You just described my life with uncanny accuracy. I have suspected for some time that my problems were due to social isolation, but I have been too apathetic to make an effort to do anything. You've just given me the motivation to chan

It depends where you fall on the issue of rehabilitation vs punishment. Being inclined to utilitarianism, my personal view is that if a person isn't a risk to society any more, we probably shouldn't be using resources to prove a m

Without knowing anything about Tim Morton, other than what's in this article, I'm struggling to see what's novel here. It sounds like the exact same stuff that came out of the environmental movement of the 60s. What am I miss

I suspect it started with multiple companies creating PC clones to capture some of IBM's market, eventually leading to a defacto standard, with multiple vendors working for interoperability. I might be wrong though.

Having previously volunteered for an LSD study, it probably isn't as much fun as it sounds. The study I was on was conducted on a cold hospital ward with bright fluorescent lights, and required having vital signs measured throughout --

A voice of reason! I don't know why these discussions become so polarised, so quickly. Most of the time, it seems if two competing theories have supporting evidence, then there's probably some truth to both of them. Nature or nurt
