I think Perl could use something like "Learn Perl The Hard Way." The foundation for the tutorial/book is already there: http://learncodethehardway.org/

I know lots of folks remap the Caps Lock to key as ESC, since it's easier to hit than ESC.

My favorite podcast is "The Tobolowsky Files": http://www.slashfilm.com/category/features/slashfilmcast/the... He's a recognizable character actor (esp. from Groundhog Day), but he's also an amazing story teller.

Nothing Broadcast.com did offered any advantage in creating something like YouTube. This isn't totally correct. Nothing that we did back then, that was exposed to the public, would have offered an advantage for making a YouTube. We had bu

This is really quite sad. In 1999, Yahoo bought the streaming media company (not just video, but radio/sports/original content/etc) I worked for, broadcast.com. They then proceeded to slowly drive the property into the ground, to where now,

It's quite hard to pick the "greatest", but I recently re-read A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, and it's still as wonderful as the first time I read it.

Installing the current, stable version of Rails hasn't ever been too complex, but trying to stay on the bleeding edge can be a bit tricky. Using rvm certainly helps, since it can keep your gem environments separate, that too involves a bit

No, but it's very similar. The silicon film, didn't replace the back of the camera. Instead, it looked like a canister of film with the leader pulled out a little. You wouldn't have to change the camera back, just pop in the silicon film th

Back in 1999, and before there were so many cheap DSLR options on the market, there was a product that sounded so great, but just never materialized. It was going to be called "(e)film" or "silicon film," and would fit inside your SLR in pl

I don't think I would call that a fail. A fail would entail the company not caring about the product it was selling, letting the purchase go through as originally set up, and then disappeared if it turned out to be defective and any attempt

Well, it looks like the server you happen to be on is having a maintenance issue, but not all of Linode. I actually find it comforting that they're a bit proactive in keeping an eye on your server to know when to do some maintenance, rather
