I think the magazine is more widely read than you think. Their mobile phone coverage is actually quite good, and very in-depth - including quite a bit of consumer polling along with their own testing.

In the article, it's actually Microsoft's COO saying that, and not Computerworld: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9179164/Microsoft_exe...

I think the design "contests" are frowned upon by many in the design community, arguing that it's nothing more than "spec" work (and specifically sites like the already mentioned 99designs and crowdspring). Some info on this can be found he

I haven't really noticed much of a slowdown with the apps and tasks on my 3G since upgrading, but it does seem to eat up the battery a little quicker.

I have a feeling that printing, filling out, and then mailing off a mechanical license for every song, and then waiting by the mailbox for the results won't make for compelling television. I understand the message behind the weblog post, bu

I realize you're just in beta right now, but it would be nice to see a little more how the site works without having to sign up. The video is cute, but doesn't really say much about how it all works. Without seeing what's inside, I'm not su

Well, that was a silly article. Of course, the mac can't go anywhere since they're needed to build the pretty apps for the iOS. They're updating the hardware (see the recent updates to macbook pros and macbooks) but maybe they're just slowi

A couple that come to mind right away are Ray Kurzweil and Jaron Lanier. I haven't read their books (though I have one of each of theirs on my to-read list), their names come up quite often.

For me, IMAP is not slow at all. In fact, I almost never have a problem with GMail over IMAP at all - and I have 3 separate email accounts (some under google apps for your domain) that all check every 30 minutes or so).

It's so rare that I use the actual GMail interface that I often forget how it even works, or how slow it is. Shortly after GMail allowed IMAP access, I hooked it up to my Mail.app and don't even bother with the web interface. It's so much m

I'm not clear on how this will damage Kickstarter's reputation. They're only hosting the project's donation collection system. They could have put up a simple webpage with a "Donate Now" button linking to Paypal to collect funds. Would that

Thanks for putting this together, really. I've been doing RoR programming for several years, but never got RSpec so much, even though I've tried off and on every now and then. But I took a quick run through the tutorial (what you have up so

Maybe I'm a bit jaded, as a former broadcast.com employee who watched layoff after layoff drain a thriving company to a shell of its former self.

It's interesting how the article doesn't mention Google's purchase of his last location service, Dodgeball, which it eventually ran into the ground after letting it flounder for a couple of years. I know it's just speculation but I'd hate t

I'm not sure this is true. Unfortunately, I highly doubt there will be any backtracking. Especially with the email quotes from Jobs that have popped up in various weblogs. And steam-rolling ahead, they'll lose a hundred (a couple hundred) a

I don't think that hiding the portfolios behind an authentication wall is a good idea. * They won't show up in search engine results * You can't casually point a recruiter/hiring manager to view the portfolio - since it's likely they won't

Partly both. It's not a terribly big room (from wikipedia: "The Sistine Chapel is 40.5 metres long and 14 metres wide. The ceiling rises to 20 metres above the main floor of the chapel."), but still it's quite an impressive room. I've been

You're going to have a hard time reclaiming the word/acronym from the celebrity gossip weblogs/sites: http://www.internetslang.com/FUG.asp http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fug http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/ etc..

This would be a nice feature. I spent a few minutes refreshing and hoping to find one I liked, but none really stuck with me. If I could freeze the color of keywords, refresh, lock another color, etc etc, that would make it much more useful

Do you have an accountant? More than likely, they would point you towards QuickBooks, as it's pretty much the standard. And if you don't have an accountant, you should probably start talking to one.

Looks like the import didn't go so well, as all the tags are listed as branches, instead of, well, tags. Is there any sort of announcement of the move?

You're starting at a tricky time. Rails 2.3 is still a great, stable platform and should be sticking around for quite some time. Rails 3 does have many improvements, but it's still a "beta" in every sense of the word as many of the plugins
