This is surprising to me. As a self taught hobbyist (crap) programmer that doesn't try too hard to make 'good' code. It nevertheless seems obvious to me that you'd want to deal with the errors first. I kind of disagree w

> C isn't open source I would debate that. 1. The C language spec isn't code, open source is only concerned with the code. 2. Philosophically, I would say that if you can write and compile standards conforming c code on an open

In what way? Define cheaper? IC cars are currently cheaper to buy, so should we ignore Bev's? Bicycles are cheap too???

The way it seems to me is that a driver takes X hours to make, integrate, etc. It's cheaper for the vendor to spend those X hours, rather than each individual purchaser each spending those X hours.

There are tipping points. For ic there's the tipping point where the engine is common enough that 'enough' fuel forecourts have the fuel. There's the tipping point where the fuel is in every forecourt. For EVs there'

No. I did get the wrong end of the stick, because Uber just means fast food to me. Fwiw, Personally I'd rather just give them the cash, rather than assuming they can't spend it. If you are going to have a system of food stamps tho

Precisely. What would you want as a buyer. A driver that has already demonstrated that it is good enough to be included in the kernel, or one of unknown quality that may need extra work to integrate with the kernel. I get why suppliers don&

I wouldn't put it like the op. And I don't know how us food stamps work but: 1. Presumably food stamps don't cover all food, so if someone wants to use their own money to get takeaways they can. 2. Surely the aim of the govt

i dont really get how this continues. vendor A sells a part with a driver in the mainline kernel. vendor B doesnt, so on top of the part you have to spend time bodging together an untested driver into a custom kernel. as a buyer why would y

The GGP said > But the thing is, a majority of people on Earth are Youtube users, so what the heck does that even mean. The GP challenged this. The parent defended this by point out the 1/3rd figure. I pointed out that 1/3rd is

How normal is this? I assume there are gluts fairly regularly so producers would to some extent be used to this? Further what does the future look like. Input costs going down, or food price rises?

Tbf though, I'm sure the number of cat pics floating about the internet dwarfs this number, so it depends on the data I suppose. Plus rather simple things like pi could create rather a long message.

I disagree. Brand, or anyone else is getting arbitrarily demonetised and YouTube has too much power. That is the issue. Taxing is that situation is basically just permission for them to carry on doing that, it doesn't fix the problem.

Either are a solution. Neither are getting implemented though. Judging by the history of the web, there's a very strong tendancy to form natural monopolies, so I'm not entirely sure you can just legislate away their dominance. I&#

I would say you're conflating freedom with fending for one's self. A teenager living at home has a high degree of freedom, but they don't have to fend for themselves, that is, they don't have to take responsibility for d
