Just because I think words can have different meanings by no means implies that I think any meaning of any word is valid. So my correct, formally acceptable use of "he" implies nothing about my opinions on the slang, informal dero

If I may be frank: you're completely missing the point. You're the one adding masculine connotations to a usage that is well-established, well-documented, and connotationless. When someone uses "he" that way, it isn&#

I don't think you're thinking this through. Using "he" as the neuter is not assuming the subject is masculine. It's reusing "he" for another purpose. It's one word with two meanings. It's fine

While this is true, and it's a great freedom that's not offered in many industries, it can lead to an unrealistic "I will build the perfect system from scratch in my parents' basement" effect. It's equally impo

That makes sense, though in an ideal world there would be an abstracted header that said "hey, I'm not gonna render JS the way a regular browser will, so send me something prerendered". Then you could write something that wou

While "they" may be the more common usage (though I personally doubt it), it doesn't really matter: it's fine to use whatever you want, and there's no reason to call him on it when it's not actually sexist. I h

Something similar to that, albeit slightly more elegant, is the work that AirBnB has done with their rendr [0] project, which serves prerendered content that's then rerendered with JS if it needs to be changed . You can do similar thi

Hiding keyword spam behind JS doesn't make any sense in this situation - the whole point is that the JS isn't being served to Google. That's who keyword spammers are trying to fool, not actual humans.

This is a great point. It might seem extreme, but I would advocate never using the User-Agent string to make decisions about what to serve a client. There is too much hackery and history that clouds up the User-Agent (such as every browse

About your PS: using "he" and its associated pronouns as the neuter pronoun is a well-established and common occurrence. It's not being sexist, or non-gender-neutral, it's just a way to have neuter pronouns without awkwa

For a site that large and well-visited, with almost entirely user-generated content, all of which are on technical problems many of which could involve illegal activity? I'd agree that that's very, very rarely.

Thanks for the response. I was half-expecting you were using localStorage, and I sympathize with your AppCache trouble. It's a pain when it does work, let alone when it doesn't. One other idea I had, which I'm not sure if y

Slight quibble: his JS example is a bit contrived. He gives the following: js> a = 5; 5 js> f = function(x) { return x+a }; function (x){return x+a} js> f(10) 15 js> a = 100 100 js> f(10

If you want to compare languages A and B, have them write it in language C first for the domain knowledge, then the two languages. That seems like a better option than giving one a bias on purpose.

Looks quite nice - I really like the new theme, as it allows you to go for a gradient look but appears much less intrusive than Bootstrap 2's theme, in addition to being optional. Better documentation is also a huge plus.
