What’s the worst that JavaScript might actually do, based on the sites that are out there? I'm using NoScript since I barely escaped from being infected by quite sophisticated malware few years ago. Innocent site (local public transport)

Quote from my friend (who earns his living doing Java development): "Java is COBOL of nineties. Future generations of programers will fly here from the Moon to piss on our graves for inflicting it upon them."

This is getting silly. It's fantastic that we finally got canvas in Explorer, but people are putting too much weight to one demo designed to highlight one particularly well performing feature (HW accelerated image draw on canvas #). This ha

Are you sure about HW acceleration of canvas? I didn't find any mention of this in release notes. I just ran few of my canvas demos in IE9 preview and while being pretty fast, they didn't seem to be HW accelerated. Performance seems to be r

This is almost a perfect example of "sick system" (or how to keep people in abusive work/personal relationships): Rule 1: Keep them too busy to think. Rule 2: Keep them tired. Rule 3: Keep them emotionally involved. Rule 4: Reward

Don't worry, there will be loaders with HTML5. When your application uses a lot of assets, it's pretty much unavoidable, independently of underlying technology. In fact, it's probably going to be worse, at least at the beginning, as JS curr

About slowdowns. Which browser/OS do you use? I know I have troubles on Firefox on Windows 7. I do compensation for actual elapsed time, but unfortunately this doesn't help when setInterval fires too late (in FF I can get occasional "jump"

Yes, a good point. I confirm, also in my experience problems are very dependent on particular sound files. Some work perfectly fine, some make troubles. And it's not just encoding, it seems to be dependent also on what's inside the sound fi

Probably they didn't use canvas for the same reason as Google (for their current Pac-Man logo game): DOM based renderer will work on more browsers. Canvas emulation for Explorer is not very fast. This may not be a problem for chart-like app

Unfortunately Flash is currently pretty much unavoidable if you want sound effects in JS games. I experimented with <audio> tag in HTML5 game few days ago: it's fine for media player type applications (where you play longer sounds w
