I like this advice, but the question for me becomes how do you assume every person is as intelligent? No, I don't think I'm exceptional or smarter than everyone...but 15 seconds of scrolling through social media, watching daytime

Sure, I edited it probably after you started a reply. But what about retailers, like say Best Buy. If they know people are just reselling an item for $1000, why not just price it at that? Do they have contracts preventing that, or would

Honest question...why are either AMD(or Nvidia) or retailers not raising their prices until stocks build? It seems like econ 101, prices rise when demand outstrips supply. But that isn't happening at the retail level. Instead scalper

One interesting article I read but can't be bothered to find now mentioned how we could better utilize malls by making top floors of condos. It was such a simple but seemingly good suggestion. Already have huge amounts of parking, to

Yeah, it's always a real shame when that happens. We have the internet, now, at least, hopefully lots can and will be made available once ICE falls further out of favor. I'd read recently something similar about Colt. Not only d

Yeah, same. Even if all of the above is true, it reads like an elaborate insult. And that's fine if that what the author set out to do for some reason. Pretending it wasn't after the fact isn't being honest, in my opinion.

I honestly wonder what goes on behind Reddit. It's been pretty terrible since the beginning. I don't mean to be insulting to anyone in particular, I know how projects go, and I love the site. But speedy or well done, it is not.

LOL, same. In fact, every site I visit often is one char + enter in the browser. With the exception of W, being east of the Mississippi every station starts with W. That got me to thinking about 'first letter advantages.' If a

You've got it backwards, DST is later sunrises and sunsets. I can't be bothered to research it, but was always told as a kid the naming was for longer daylight hours after school, so the kids could help farm.

By looking at the death rate of covid itself in an entirety, which is currently about 2000 deaths per 100k cases in Ireland. So 500 times worse, just like the US numbers.

At the risk of sounding cold...they seriously suspended it because four people showed issues? Out of more than 100k doses? That's microscopic, a rounding error compared to how many people die from covid. My own mom keeps pointing me

Agreed. Before I was vaccinated I read all the numbers I could find. Apparently all 3 show something like 90 percent effectiveness after 3 weeks, even without a second dose for those that ask for it. Seems much more effective to let ever

Fair, but no other country(admittedly) save perhaps Brazil or Italy has had anywhere near the spread of the disease, either. In places the disease isn't rampant, I think the approach makes more sense.

Perhaps unpopular opinion, but the US vaccination system is about the worst when it comes to preventing spread. Instead, it seems to be attempting to prevent death. I've always argued that preventing spread would as a byproduct preven

You don't need it. Linux works fine without swap, given ample memory. In my experience, even with ample swap, when Linux gets memory starved it goes haywire anyways. I'm an ex linux sysadmin, and haven't run swap on my perso

Probably a lot like early cars, say 50s or prior. The problem is that as safety and fuel regulations increase, design gets more clever and space gets tight.

I didn't look too closely at the code, but have written a toy browser in just this way. The problem is that QT on targets rarely gets updated, at least not as fast as Chromium. I had the misfortune of targeting old RHEL systems, whose

I gave it more thought in passing and am a bit curious what real, heavy ML might look like. And if there's value in such things. Example: I often find myself remembering bits of things, and querying Google, and the results are way of
