Ignoring the creative work you mention, I do have some experience with browsing. Prior to my retirement, I read RSS feeds for maybe an hour a day and Hacker News for an additional 15 minutes. After 2 years of retirement, I probably still

I had a relative who had a summer job at Ikea monitoring self-checkout: 1) the system and software were unfriendly to both users and staff, especially in error states, as you suggest 2) many people needed rudimentary help 3) no time to look

Interesting. I live in West Menlo Park and often see planes overhead coming from the West or Northwest to the Bay. I didn't fully understand they may need to slot into a really long flow from the East and even the South. The prior Phil

"The Passion of Joan of Arc directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer" As old, silent films go, this is quite good. In the past, this might mean a cheap DVD release. Not sure the signficance of public domain for movies these days.

I regularly had 7am PST calls with Europe and Russia and 7pm PST calls with China and Taiwan. Calls with both at the same time were particularly difficult to schedule.

I was a sofware director at a Fortune 500 company. I had engineers in Silicon Valley, Santa Cruz, Canada, the Netherlands, Russia, UK, Taiwan, and Wuhan (!) China. I also had individual engineers in Romania, Ireland, Portugal and Germany.

For 11 years, I worked for a successful Silicon Valley company that had a philosophy of renting rather than buying. Their rationale was to focus on their business rather than in something outside their core expertise, commercial real estat

I'm from the Bay Area and I have little first-hand data about shoplifting or the ineffectiveness of reporting it. I do know that some Walgreens stores have more merchandise under lock and key than others.
