Definitely all valid points. I don't have any side projects that can potentially turn into a full business at the moment, so I do have the time to learn. I'm focusing on Django and python for the moment. I think Postgresql is a gr

I know that. I didn't make it explicit in my comment. The Microsoft tax I mentioned with Azure is the licensing costs. Microsoft isn't just going to give out SQL Server for free and just charge for the VMs and bandwidth. There is

The problem is that there is always going to be a new Windows Server release, plus a new SQL Server release. Even if you keep your licenses, are you going to stay on that version for the lifespan of the system? Likely not. Then you start to

In some environments, having the logic in the database is actually the better choice. When you are dealing with data that is in the million plus rows, there is more to lose from the separation of logic than just letting the database do what

I am really trying to understand these flow comments that are coming up. Waiting for 4 seconds for tests to run or even a few seconds more just seems like a silly thing to get caught up on. If we are talking minutes than I can see that but

This hasn't been mentioned it seems but I just used a turnkey vm (from http://www.turnkeylinux.org/ ) to setup Gitlab. Looks like the vm is not the latest version but it was a painless install.

Usually it's too much work to do a refactor with the new language and a conversion. Much easier to convert first (with whatever warts the existing code base has) then do a refactor. So I doubt their approach had too much to do with Go

I asked this on the main thread on this, but why hasn't Horvath filed a lawsuit. There seems to be enough there for one on some merit.

We have a process for all this. It's called the legal system. It's not perfect but it mostly gets the job done. Has Julie Ann Horvath formally sued Github? It's not clear to me that she has. It seems that she may have grounds

Yes, that's right. The UI for XXXX which start at $999 are for the ASP.NET MVC, PHP, JSP, etc. bindings. I would suspect most of the money that Telerik makes are from the binding licences (Microsoft likely the biggest).

The previous GPLv3 was the complete package. This change actually removes features that the GPLv3 had. In particular, the main one and the reason most companies would want to buy a commercial license now is the Grid component. I understand

I've thought about using this. Do you use use it often? My understanding is that taking it consistently isn't a good idea. Using it the odd night that I'm restless seems like a good idea.

Great job on the site! I've used it a couple of times to compare products. Feeling rested makes you a better father and a better person. Life has a new meaning when you have had enough sleep, proper diet and regular exercise. Your mind

The main reason I would want to get a Windows Phone is for the camera. Nokia still seems to be the closest one gets to getting a reasonable point and shoot camera in a smartphone. I started with a blackberry, then moved to iPhone 4S. Bought

If YC states a specific reason, then what? Does YC now have the responsibility to engage in a dialogue outlining the details for the reason. It wouldn't be fair to write a single paragraph and say, "oh, we think your team dynamics

It looks like you have real equity in the company and there is possible traction in the business. You are a co-founder. That counts for a lot. I am also assuming that your equity stake is significant. First of all, deal with this right now.

This is an overt support of someone that is highly controversial. The aftermath of the Iraq war isn't going way because the US isn't involved as much anymore. There is already a sense that accountability hasn't really been hi
