How much time are you putting into this every day? You said you think you are burned out. You probably are. You need to think big picture on this. You have worked hard to build a business that makes real money. It's not sexy and you do

Look's like you really have a tough nut to crack here. This is a really tough area as there is so much competition. Your product doesn't have any "I need this right now." It's also something that you really need to

How many clients do you have? Get out there and spend time with the companies that might want your product. Work with them to add whatever extra features are needed to make it really worthwhile. Toyota can build the best Corolla but they st

This is great advice and I would say how most companies get started. It's hard to realize that we're our own little techno bubble when we read HN and about start-up's all the time. The fact is that most of the software compan

This is really it. We in our techno bubble care about these things. For normal people, its basically a non-issue. Heck, I even forget that Facebook bought Instagram unless I'm reminded of it here and there. This goes to Facebook'

Why is this a big problem? If your scenario plays out after VR is really viable because of the extra millions that Facebook puts into the product, so be it. At this point, the awesome feature issue isn't even really on the table based

Just chill. Don't worry about it. Do something that you enjoy and don't feel guilty about spending all your time at it. Don't feel guilty for not doing much or just "wasting" your time. This is your mind/soul t

Sorry to hear. Seems like they were fishing to see what else they could get from you that wasn't already open-sourced. When they found that the open source code was enough, they dumped you. As this changed your mind about open sourcing

Hasn't OS X become "linux on the desktop". Homebrew is there for a lot of the main packages and its easy to bring up virtual machines with whatever flavor of Linux distribution one wants for more particular needs. If you alre

Wow. What an unexpected buy. It's not even Aprils Fool's yet. This is likely a defensive buy. I would imagine it didn't cost too much either.

I think the biggest example would be Amazon. The biggest advantage I see is that Joel's approach still allows some level of iteration on the domain model and all the associated business logic. It seems that mobile is pushing this type

I am starting to wonder if the overhead of doing an API first design is that much more than integrating your domain model into the web app directly. The benefits of having an API backend really seem to shine in the scenario that Joel is des

I don't follow Postgres too much and I saw the tweet by Peter van Hardenberg first. It's great to see the enthusiasm for the project. It's likely that 9.5 or even 9.6 will actually see the real significance of this new featur

Buyvm.net is another good one. Lowendbox is great for finding lesser known providers that don't want to become the next Digital Ocean. You are right though, you still need to due your due diligence.

Winning Through Intimidation - Robert Ringer: This is old book but a classic. It's a fun and humorous read and the context is around real estate deals but surprisingly a lot of applies to start-ups (and real life). If I were to sum up

Totally agree with these iterations of libraries. The latest craziness is their authentication story for ASP.NET. Their new libraries try to fix old design flaws but at the same time leave out functionality from the original membership, rol

Not all of us using .NET use LINQ without any oversight or thought. It's a great tool and needs to be used wisely. For example, all queries that are generated for database calls via LINQ are reviewed and analyzed to make sure its what
