You're talking about the supply side of the supply/demand equation. Essentially, the greater the supply of something, the lower the price one can charge for it. Reducing the cost of production effectively increases the supply, so it ultimat

"I thought that you could fit the Library of Congress in less." Nope. I've worked there, they've got multiple petabytes of data, though a major portion of that is audio and video. Even the books aren't stored as txt files.

If you're trying to learn Common Lisp, then no 'cl' is not sufficient. It ads a few CL features to Emacs lisp, but it isn't the same thing at all. If you're just trying to write Emacs extensions, then it's a nice extension to the language w

I've used Rails and Noir and they're not really comparable. Noir is much more minimalist and doesn't cover nearly the same ground as Rails. Noir is more like Sinatra as I understand it. The Clojure mentality so far has eschewed all encompas

I should clarify... Yes org-mode has todo features, including calendering, scheduling, etc, but listen some of the talks Carsten Dominik gives where he explains his rational: http://orgmode.org/talks.html It's core is as an flexible note-

I'd be interested as to what you think the point of org-mode is. It's principally a free form note taking and outlining mode, not a todo app like you might be imagining. edit: clarified intent

I think that there's a difference between art today and art a hundred and fifty years ago and I think that it's deeper than you suspect. In the Middle Ages, scholars believed that beauty was representational. They believed that something

For what it's worth, I have the same laptop running just fine with Linux (Ubuntu) as well. My one complaint is that the keyboard is horrible. The responsiveness is well below that of any other keyboard I've used.

I'd be more concerned about government mandated fingerprinting. Using public key authentication, it would be possible to make biometric keys nigh impossible to steal (such that they don't ever exist on disk in any form whatsoever.) However,

Assuming people know that they are renting slummy, dangerous apartments, I see no reason why they should be prevented from doing just that. Unless it's creating a wider problem for the community, I just don't see the benefit of baroque li

Except that in Lisp "-number" is totally different than "- number" and I rarely have to worry about it when I code in Lisp. I code in both Lisp and Ruby on a regular basis, and I don't see the ability to write "x-y" as any real advantage. I

By this line of reasoning, anything that is more popular among poor people is a tax on them? The argument is that gambling houses are taking advantage of people's poor education to bilk them out of money. In principle, everyone in develop

I'd argue that the economy was richer by two text messages, each valued at $10M by the recipients. Measuring the strength of an economy is a fundamentally hard thing to do because value itself is quite arbitrary.
