The fact that he was was with a large MNC says it all. His corporate brand likely does so much work for him that he's possibly forgotten just how hard it is to generate leads. For example, I have a buddy who's climbing the ladder at Cisco,

I'm in A/V services, so we'll use and reuse 50-200ft stretches of HDMI, and the Amazon HDMIs are top notch. Of course, we're not the typical user of HDMI, but FWIW, they are pretty solid.

Couldn't agree more. I work in A/V services and we use Amazon for HDMI cabling. Often we have needs for 50, 100, and 200 ft HDMI cables, and Amazon is by far the best bargain. We use them multiple times, and they take wear and tear like a c

I know Netflix has instated a flex vacation policy -- take as long as you need, but you have to get the job done first. It depends on where you are looking to work? If you're looking to sign on with a startup hiring their first 5 employees,

A similar point: I've never actually met someone who has 4 weeks of vacation to actually use all 4. Generally, when you work up to the point at a BigCo where you can command a larger vacation, it's hard to remove yourself from the day-to-da

Hire him on a 90 day trial period. Pay him for those 90 days, of course, but after that time, that's when you should know if his technical skills outbalance the "annoying factor." He may be a great guy once you get to know him, and he also

True, single sales can be won and lost by skill alone, but without some passion for either the product, your employer, or your customer, you may end up as a Glengarry Glen Ross style frustrated burnout :)

Another rule that is assumed, but not mentioned is this is the following: Rule 0: If you don't believe in your product or respect the people you're selling to, the deal is already broken. I'm sure when the author was selling steak knives,

In this instance, I assumed that "system" referred to Dell's business model, which did in fact suffer. From a consumer perspective, as you're referring to, it was preferable.

This reminds me of the story of Roman conquerors' celebratory parades, with the slave saying "all glory is fleeting." It seems as if you must consciously intervene to prevent erosion; otherwise that story wouldn't be passed down as much as

The Dell anecdote at the beginning was particularly surprising. Hindsight is always clearer, and the author is intentionally summarizing to strengthen a point, but I was blown away at how calculating ASUS's actions were. The whole time I re

I'm more on the web marketing side, and it's nearly every 1-2 weeks where I see someone write an article or give a presentation likening customer acquisition and conversion to "tricking hawt chicks into hooking up with you." It's absurd. Re

I'd consider this a "100% response rate" rather than an aspect of conversion rate. Conversion typically implies sign ups or sales of some form, especially in the context of cold calls. That said, this information is gold -- I'll use it myse

Factoring all of that in, I'd still say that if there were equity for the plan, it would be small. A lot of this planning work is within the CEO's job description by default. It takes the bruden off the technical team so that they can do th

In line with this article, I've been learning how to program as rapidly as possible. I'm a sales lead for a startup with a heavy Ruby use, as well as a little C, C++, and JS. I can tell you it isn't easy, but its worth it. I'm better at my
