I believe you are correct. Moreover, since every rails tutorial know to man builds a twitter/microblogging/messaging clone, odds are likely that this will not be awarded simply because the application's technology is obvious at this point.

People do love snakes. And TV shows. And Sports teams. They've also had social networks for decades -- known as "Fan Clubs." Fanpop took that idea online, and according to a Mixergy interview, they're making $1 MM in profits. http://www.fa

I didn't make this, but a friend did. He's also done the same for ice storms, wildfires, and other natural disasters. Why am I sharing: 1) It's pretty darned cool 2) If you're looking for an idea for a project -- build this infrastructure f

I've assumed that the goal was to intentionally add a degree of friction to the comment process. As readers, we're now forced to at least scan for content, rather than a number. This has actually benefited my experience in 3 ways: - I actua

Read up on Evan Ratliff's project: http://www.wired.com/vanish/2009/08/author-evan-ratliff-is-o... He was found on ~day 25, even though he used some pretty high-level tactics to try to remain anonymous. If no one's specifically looking fo

I agree with other commenters that you've advertised for a coufounding CEO, rather than a sales guy. Be your own CEO, or officially hand over the reins to a CEO hire -- don't hire a sales guy for the wrong job. But, here's my advice for an

The author hits on it slightly with his first and last listed challenges, but for me, the hardest part of the "business guy" role is the waiting. Waiting for clients to call back. Waiting for bugs to get fixed. Waiting for features to be co

I support the decision to downplay karma within comments; I would even experiment with removing that data from the article listings view. This is a data driven group of people who are simultaneously very competitive. It's likely that the ma

Good call. Wordpress is also pretty thick with lots of people paying for extensions. I'd even narrow it down further- perhaps bootstrapped, wordpress-built companies of 3 or more, where speed and customer relationship really matters. $40/mo

My two tips: 1)Try to find out what type of website owners would see the most benefit (large, small, ecommerce, blogs, Wordpress?) and target them heavily. Get it to as concise a group as you possible can, then make it yours. Then find your

My thoughts exactly. Doesn't anyone want to innovate, or "change the world" anymore? If someone's going to go through all of the labor to make a copy of groupon or an iFart app or a twitter API mashup just for the cash, they should just wri
