The idea is inherently very romantic and alluring for developers: the unix philosophy. Arguably yes, it makes total sense, but the difference is that the tools to both develop software and combine them via unix pipes made that a beautiful a

Curious to know what the feedback was from YC partners? Did you ask for advice? Was the choice to pivot largely driven by the feedback of the VC or something you already planned to do?

I use the m3o.com/app service (because I wrote it). It's a simple interface on top of Google Cloud Run that gives me back a *.m3o.app url. I can run it like `m3o app run --name=helloworld --repo= https://github.com/

Whoa that really sucks. I met Philip Su a really long time ago when he was at Facebook. I think he came to our office in London to give a talk. Sad to hear he's been through such a difficult time. Hope life continues to improve for him

So what's interesting is a lot of the use cases you're mentioning are basically large scale storage of tv shows, movies, images, etc. I guess these use cases are already heavily served. For the people who really need self storage

Really interesting comment. I've amended the title to include self-hosting for relevancy here. You are right, power in small form factor has increased to the extent that Pis with some additional storage can suffice. The setup can be ar

It really is a game of semantics as another person commenting mentioned. It might feel like there's something distinct here but all RPC was remote procedure calls aka functions and produced tightly coupled clients and server code. And

NATS is very powerful. The author has like 25 years of experience building messaging systems and NATS has been around for a long time. The streaming component is slightly newer but I'd say it does the same job as Kafka but much lighter

The thing about people with experience, we love to tell you about the past. The cycles are all the same, technology A is created, it has some level of success, then something else (B) is adopted. A new generation of developers have only exp

Be careful with advice like this. You don't know if the company has yet succeeded. A lot of it is quite logical but at the same time many things are an anomaly e.g the tool launched and closed fundraising within a short period of time.

Go Micro has gRPC plugins for its client/server packages. You basically import these and it's immediately using gRPC under the covers. Go Micro has it's own code generation that looks similar to gRPC and based on protobuf.

I like the rationale here, had not really even considered the era in which Go was created and the implications for that in comparison to languages and frameworks of the past. You're right though, it changes things. My experiences from

There's a point of diminishing returns to all technology. Even the folks developing Rails or Spring know that. This is why new things emerge which "simplify" that experience once more, but inevitably we just end up back in th

I'd be interested to see whether people said the same about other languages with dominant frameworks now. I've personally learned that at very large people scale, frameworks end up emerging aka the common libraries grouped togethe

Yea, I wrote both. Go Micro was the first thing I open sourced in 2015. Eventually I moved on to building Micro, for a number of years both projects were in the same github org and worked together. After about 6 years I could see a split in

Looking at existing email APIs, you don't really have to run the server anymore so that's a big plus, just do storage if you really want. Sendgrid and the like with relay mail for you. Superhuman focused on the client and builds o

I would love to be able to do that as well. I always thought this would be some sort of service composition or batch query model. Both Micro and M3O have CLI tools which can enable that so technically you can do something like that but nati

The SMS provider is currently Twilio. You can contribute services to the micro/services repo and they will be hosted on M3O. I welcome a sort of collaborative approach to that. We used to enable each user to have a *.m3o.dev subdomain
