You're right. But maybe the computation becomes more complicated and less transparent for the average user. Another benefit of choosing varying points instead of always the same 1-5 scale is that someone select points from 1-7 or 1-20 also

great comparison. You should have put this together in a blog entry or something like that.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of techniques like COCOMO. The different points have to be there in order for things to weigh differently. If it was a scale of 1-4 the question of whether your code can be reused weighs the same as reducing bugs

The author seems to not make a distinction between a web application of some sort and then a website. If he's making a website for a client, I really doubt that he likes to write all the code to edit pages, blog, update images etc himself f

Personally, I would recommend code igniter, even though the author of the article seems to disagree. It's a very lightweight, basic, MVC framework. Clear cut documentation and if you look at their code, it's clean and easy to understand.

REST wins. Hands down. I generally find it very tedious to work with web services using soap. Arbitrary variable types, complicated error reporting etc. You can fall into all kinds of problems with different standards etc... It's fine when

What I really miss is the '?' shortcut in Firefox for searching on the page only in links. (There might be a different key combination for US keyboards) If chrome would implement that, my life would improve at least 5% it makes navigating t

You're right. The biggest problem with the redesign, in my opinion, is that the space (margin) between the links is much less (relatively) than the original HN, so this design seems very crowded.

I'm in Iceland, so I'm not expecting it to reach us for the next years. It's been 3 months since we first got the iPhone!!! Some people have had luck with importing the iphone from the US and then cracking it, but it's not a very enjoyable

One more thing. If your managers suck and they keep interrupting all the time or at the wrong time or don't respect your time and that it is a failure when they interrupt you, then you have a sucky manager and he's probably not even going

Ok, I agree with some of what he's saying, he says: "It can wait a day". Well, yes. In theory. The truth of the matter is that if you're doing actual client work, you have to contact the client, then you might have to pinball things with yo

I would love a similar guide for Android-based phones like the Nexus One. Anybody know of such a link?

I whole heartedly agree. If links like this one keep getting to the front page, HN will suffer because of it.

Yes, you're correct, I am in Iceland. I was hoping to use a merchant account in Iceland with Authorize.net. I'm still waiting for an answer from Authorize.net's customer support, but I'm hoping it's possible.

You're right, I forgot that firefox remembers the zoom level for each page and when I go to another page/link in the same tab, the zoom level goes normal again. Good job FF.

You will probably always need to manage your content somehow. Not only that, but you'll also need a framework or a development platform to base your software and ideas upon. The CMS's (WCM's) role in your life might be diminishing relativel

I don't really care so much about the category of the post, as in programming/startups/CSS/Apple. I'm more interested in knowing what kind of post it is, as in pdf/magazine article/blog article/video etc.
