You're missing the point, this debate isn't about FAANG profits, it's about protecting democracy. Maybe the root issue was letting 4 private companies control the entire public debate with dangerous moderation practices.

This used to be true, but now that 30-40% of the web audience uses adblockers, a wake-up call is imminent.

Marketing people love to make false claims, setting crazy expectations. Increased competition encourages these small lies, and sometimes even academic fraud. This hurt and will continue to hurt the ML field.

It's linear for now (check GPT-2 vs GPT-3), but we're close to the point of diminishing returns.

You're describing the Thinkpad T14S. It's a real shame it has soldered RAM, I hope Framework's success will show the industry there's an actual need for this.

60% is great! That's much better than hydrogen, but still far from lithium. Let's hope the $/kWh is decent.

My favorite example is Pandas, which makes iterating a dataframe hard on purpose to encourage using vectorization.

The fact that a bug this severe and overengineered took so look to be noticed is both hilarious and extremely scary about how we trust modern software.

I entirely agree. But OSS maintainers could have product vision too. We just need the right incentives, like better business models.

Of course there's issues, that's why it didn't happen! But solutions do exist: open-source focusing on UI, standardisation, free static IPs, more open operating systems, etc

I 100% agree. Imagine if self-hosting was taught in schools. Would Facebook and GMail be this big? I'm dreaming of an alternate universe where you read your friends microblogs through RSS, with the client and timeline algorithm of your

I love VR, but it's far from having as much content as their console counterparts. Indie developers, it's time to shine in this new eldorado.

The GPU shortage was my deciding factor for buying a Quest2. Simple games like Beat Saber are indistinguable from PC, it's a marvel of optimization. My GTX1060 stuttered more than the Quest mobile chip.

I love the simplicity of this so much, I built a whole CMS using that, with markdown and a single HTML file! https://github.com/arnaudsm/raito

The public debate was polluted by misinformation. I remember a poll showed most Europeans think Fukushima killed thousands and nuclear emits massive CO2.

These graphs are misleading. Intermittent and non-pilotable sources are a nightmare during shortages. Which is the biggest threat Germany faces right now.

The whole point of the article is that poor optimisation make you loose a big part of your audience. The money is there, you just don't notice it.

"Modern web" isn't bad because of it's design, it's awful because of the dark patterns and 5s+ load times. You don't need 20MB React bundles to make a good-looking website, and OP proves that perfectly

Let's face it : the modern web is a nightmare without an adblocker and annoyance blocklists. And most web creators aren't even aware because they use these tools themselves. No wonder why normal people like walled gardens, the UI

Google Glass wasn't AR, it had no tracking at all. It's closer to WearOS than anything. Same for the FB Rayban glasses that don't even have a screen, yet are categorized as AR, and the video ad even pretends to project 3D obj
