I'd like to see Amazon offer some new services to improve working across multiple regions. Just being able to copy an EBS volume and AMI to a different region with a single API call would help a lot of people quickly establish much better r

You can ... sort of. Amazon offer dedicated instances: http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2011/03/amazon-ec2-dedicated-inst... Just rather than supplying the hardware you have to rent it from Amazon. Would be interesting to know how these instan

Are defined benefit pensions common anywhere outside of the public sector anymore in Europe? They weren't on offer for (smaller) private companies when I was in the UK 10 years ago.

I like the concept, but the basic plan has me confused. I signed up, clicked around a bit, looked at a number of reports and now every stock I click on reports 'You have analyzed 10 stocks, which is the limit for Vuru Basic' ... even stocks

I use SES (from C#) and it integrated very painlessly and seems to work flawlessly. Between EC2/S3/Cloudfront/SES Amazon offers a very compelling suite of products that no-one else has replicated. Sure they may not be absolutely the best a

Thank you for sharing such an honest look at how things are going. I'm have a side project that deals with organizing events, and as such also has some awkward failure modes. Many customers leave preparations until the last minute, and so

Just adding some javascript that just made sure the right ads are showing would have been a much more subtle response. I wonder if there is a possibility of a JS library that could detect this type of scraping and reserving automatically.

I've been running the AeroFS beta for a couple of weeks and am very happy with it. Nothing high volume or stressful, but it has done what it said it would quickly and efficiently, and the client even worked behind the moderately aggressive

The marginal cost per license may be cheap, but there may be a significant support overhead to a flood of new users. Maybe with technical web apps that AppSumo tends to focus on this is less of an issue. I've found a certain portion of non

Interesting -- I am much more likely to read the Wikipedia page for a language I don't know than one I do. Not sure how to interpret the stats in that case.

Interesting concept -- how do you deal with the legalities? If I buy something am I buying it from you or from the original owner? How long do you hold onto the funds to deal with any potential chargebacks?

IANAL either ... but directors of companies do have legal responsibilities, and is it possible that the authorities could choose to purse the directors for failing to fulfil those responsibilities. In the UK at least I believe you can be pr

Conventional wisdom says that complete code rewrites are almost always a bad idea. Joel has some great essays on this from several years back. Developers that have not tackled a big rewrite tend to believe they are the exception to this ru

If the comment was purely on the technical merits of the API for programming then I don't think this is a factor. But presumably it is at least part of the reason id have stuck with OpenGL and not switched to the 'better' API

Cover letters are a great way to stand out from the crowd. Most resumes I see don't have them, and a good portion of those that do have a generic 'I want to work for <insert_company_name> and I'm sure I'm a good fit' boiler plate. G
