IANAL either ... but directors of companies do have legal responsibilities, and is it possible that the authorities could choose to purse the directors for failing to fulfil those responsibilities. In the UK at least I believe you can be prevented from holding directorships in other companies, which may mess things up for you personally in the future even without a financial impact. Not sure what happens if all the directors in a company resign?!
