With the numbers mentioned in the article, it's nowhere near sufficient to ban smoking in bars or other areas. It should be permanently banned from everywhere, and production should be ceased. Let's see them pass legislation to do

Quite an eye opener. Yet, due to the enormous amount of money generated by the alcohol and smoking businesses, no one dares to go after them. Who care about people dying when there's so much money to be made?

You'd be surprised at the extent hype influences decision making when it comes to choosing which language to use (even in companies you mentioned), at a significant cost down the line. I'll just say I know people at one of the com

FastHTTP is a low allocation HTTP library in golang. Netty is a low level event driven framework for writing networking applications and protocols. It's used in many libraries and frameworks which build on top of it like Vertx, Spring

Apples to oranges comparison. Netty is a general purpose event driven networking library. FastHTTP is specialized to HTTP. Even given that, Vertx (which uses Netty) ranks above FastHTTP in the Techempower benchmarks, even though they have t

It means that golang is relegated to simple server side tools, and not suited for a broader range of programs like the JVM is.

Take the benchmarkgames site with a big grain of salt. They're running on an old processor, and that biases results a lot. For example, someone submitted a patch that significantly sped up a Java benchmark by using `Math.fma()`. Howeve

Java is getting two new low latency collectors. golang is stuck with a GC that favors latency over throughput, making it not suited for high throughput processing.

For real world, non-trivial programs, golang lags behind Java/JVM.

Javas GCs already achieve their goals. The JVM has several GCs to select from based on the needs such as: high throughput, very large heap sizes (up to the TB range), and there are two in experimental phase for very low latencies (ZGC and S

They should move away from using Python in a system like this. There's a non trivial amount of Python code (e.g. [0]) in the repo. The lack of type-safety is just the start of the issues with using it in a project like this. [0] https

From my understanding, they're making the green thread API be very close to the current threading API, so that you need minimal changes to make them work. If I'm not mistaken, if you're already using an Executor, it's ju

I'm not sure what you're referring to. The JVM itself will support green threads, which means that any existing blocking libraries can be called from said green threads and they will become asynchronous. The runtime will take care

What's confusing about it? It's built on threads and mutexes, not unlike golang with its goroutines and mutexes. The main difference is that Java will be getting green threads soon, which will allow the user to spawn hundreds of t

I know how it works in golang. It's more or less transparent to the user, just how like it's being implemented in Java where the user doesn't designate functions as `async`, and the runtime automatically takes care of it.
