That's going to be an interesting question. If you host on linode or google apps or pair.com, is that a server under your control, or a third party. I would call it a server under your control, the same as a store in a strip mall is under y

I tried to watch a movie rented from Amazon over Roku last night (not Prime) and it was unwatchable. It would get stuck on some scene for seconds to minutes, occasionally letting loose a bit of audio. The movie was Inception. Maybe there's

This reminds me of my favorite joke: Man has progressed to the point of rivalry with God. Man talks to God and brags about his accomplishments. God agrees that Man has accomplished a lot. God reminds Man that God made him from dirt. Man say

For many of us, watching a movie on TV is anything but just another evening. Everyone is different, and no one needs to justify their time to anyone.

Benefits are easy: don't offer them, or make sure you structure the work week so the employee doesn't get enough hours to qualify. People deal with unplanned for interactions with people better than a machine, they're much more flexible. Li

Interesting question: is it cheaper to use a low-skill, uneducated workforce for low-skilled work, or a smaller but somewhat higher-skilled and educated workforce to maintain the mechanized workforce replacement machines, as well as the sma

As we all argue over whether this is powered by gravity, or food, or nuclear fusion, somewhere in a dark hut someone is lifting a weight to attend to the baby that just woke up in the middle of the night.

Paying an employee enough to keep him from leaving, before he declares that he's leaving, could be seen as a form of early optimization. We don't like early optimization, for good reasons. "They" probably don't like it either, for similar

Probably my lack of understanding of how vagrant fits and works. But you wouldn't use vagrant to manage a production server, so there's an inevitable difference there.

What is the problem that vagrant solves, that can't be done without virtualbox on its own, or virtualbox and chef/puppet on their own? Or lacking that, what does vagrant do so much better than the base tools on their own that you would neve

It wasn't meant as a straw man, it was meant as a way to identify a boundary. The most restrictive regulation possible would be a total ban, and only a total and successful ban would prevent people from using guns in massacres. So "regula
