Author is not talking about "design" - he is talking about "UX design". Totally different beast. Former is, well, design, while the latter is how user experiences your product or service.

What you describe is actually a pretty good test if someone should be allowed to strike a deal - "can they describe it unassisted"?

In the end it is about knowledge sharing. You either tell someone that he might be headed in the wrong direction (he doesn't need to listen to you though) or you don't. If you tell him, he has more information on which he can base

Wait, you shouldn't tell him this, he should have learned that all by himself! I don't agree with the author's view at all. If anything, it angers me when I trust a mentor to guide me and he lets me waste a week before I figu

When you say "out of date", you probably mean feature wise, not security and stability wise? For me that is an acceptable tradeoff for most of the packages. Most of the stuff doesn't evolve at such pace that I should have the

I think OP is missing the point. Browsers of today are taking over the space which Java tried to capture (remember "write once run everywhere" slogan?) but failed. They provide (mostly) unified development platform. But the catch

It is a nice challenge how to rewrite such a system. One way would be to build a parallel system, identify all inputs and duplicate them to the parallel solution and then compare the outputs; in case of discrepancies fix the erroneous syste

Absolutely agree with the sentiment. A few times I had to help out friends customize something I was horrified at the overall level of code quality. It looks as if a B-level programmer started it and C-level programmers helped... And I thin
