Seriously? You think you can do a better job at implementing scrollbar than browser makers? And you have the resources to test on every_single_device out there? And you really think I would even notice the scrollbar if it worked? Just don

From sysop standpoint there is a huge difference: 1) for user: less chance (pun intended) to actually change the file when all you wanted was to read it 2) for sysadmin: if sysadmin sees "less somefile.log" in bash history, he kno

Question: how does it work if user goes to the page which has invalid / self-signed certificate? Does proxy sign the altered page with the same certificate as others, thus making the warning go away? This would leave you open to other

While I agree with the facts in the article, my own conclusions are quite the opposite (feel free to downvote / flame, but please read the whole response first). I guess it depends on values - for me, what matters is the value added to

I think the part about the coin flip is misleading on two counts: 1) if you chose randomly from the pool of job applications, does OP really think you have 50% chance to fail / not fail? (probability doesn't work this way) 2) what

Not sure why you got downvoted - here, have +1. I agree that they probably don't comply to the license by not linking to the license itself, however, I doubt anyone will take them to court for this. Also, this could be seen as quoting

Let's face it - sometimes it is better to just avoid the problem than to (try to) solve it. Just use some other form of sentence, people will not even notice and you will save yourself tons of problems.

I will assume the last part is just a generic statement and is not directed towards me. You are a Java dev I presume? As for app-level locking, I am talking about sacrificing performance, not safety. We just make sure that some piece of cod

Agreed. That said, optional schema enforcement would be really nice (in my experience, most of the data has a predefined format; so why not define schema and enforce it?).

Lately (and not so lately ;) there has been a lot of bad press about MongoDB. We use it extensively as part of our product (on single servers) and it fills this role nicely. It has a few drawbacks, most notably huge disk space requirements
