Google maps won because they provide accurate directions and maps in a really simple, clean, fast interface. Competing products have caught up quite a bit, but I still cant bring myself to go to mapquest because of how much it used to suck

Enjoyed the article, but I've learned to just be a little rude. Rejection is part of life, and you can't live yours just trying not to hurt peoples' feelings. In fact, if you actually care, you should find a time to talk to the person abo

This guy has everything backwards. I sort of hate writing tests, but still write them first most of the time. In the end, they catch so many bugs and save so much time, I would never go back to hacking code and point and click testing. T

Funny it ended up with the same title I gave it the first time I typed it. I like thinking of articles like this as a failed present that never happened, because I find that to be a deeper way of considering wrong predictions. That's the

Wow, lots of vagueness here. I'll try to be concrete. I'm looking for someone who amazes me with their insights in the areas of my relative weakness. That includes design, user experience, sales, marketing, and media. You should also hav

Free plans work if they are inadequate for customers who can afford to pay, but adequate for a taste. Less Accounting does a great job of this. The only reason not to offer such a plan would be the resources it requires to support free cu

If you're relying on obscure not well known operator precedence rules, you are writing less maintainable code. It's as bad or worse than using meaningless variable or function names. Use parentheses so your code communicates your intentio

I star (gmail feature) emails that are actionable. Archive the rest. Then work through the starred emails as part of my daily run. I'm not sure what value this app ads over that system other than allowing me to add my summary in the task

I say "this code sucks" pretty often. Occasionally, I'm wrong in ways similar to those described in this article. Often, it's crappy outsourced code built by intern developers with no sense of right and wrong.

Better late than never. The course I used was this one: http://www.naturalstressreliefusa.org/compare.php I'm sure there are many like it, but this one was well done and taught me the basics of this type of meditation.

I agree with a lot of these responses. If you're on a 50 mile hike, focus on the end point and you will be constantly discouraged. Focus on the next step, the next viewpoint, and the journey, and you will enjoy yourself and get there in

I buy Southwest always for one reason: no change fees. Every dollar I spend is applicable toward another fare if I don't go or want to change times. I spend more money sometimes, less money others, but always have confidence I'm not throw

Can you really say "forever" on $20,000 of YC funding? Is there a foundation set up to host the site in the likely event that investors balk? Are you spending your YC funds on offsite backups and some sort of forever RAID? I'd much rather

I wouldn't be surprised if many hotel owners, planners, etc didn't know what an "HT22 encoder" is, or that they were a rip-off. "Expensive proprietary key card system" rings everyone's bell.

A policy against vague restrictions in an open-source license seems sensible to me. I appreciate Crockford's humor, and also that he freely offers exceptions to the clause, since in end, it's silliness.
