The fact that you got Wittgenstein and Kant confused doesn't give me much faith in the depth of understanding of philosophy that led to your other opinions.

This intuitively makes a lot of sense and helps explain the more baffling aspects of the case. I'd be happy to call Occam's Razor on this (albeit based on a very cursory reading).

There's a vast spectrum of contributions. I use Copilot and most of the time it's just autocomplete with a bit more awareness of context. Like - it suggests the next 10 characters or so it's either correct or correct enough t

I tend to regard Rails and Django as being appealing to people with a roughly similar mindset with regards to web development and htmx feels like it fits into that philosophy - at least more so than the fast bulk of the front end ecosyste

This is a moderately persuasive argument. Although the crawler should probably ignore all the html body. But it does feel like a grey area if I accept your first pint.

We're obviously talking past each other. I'll ask one more time - do you think the *article itself* is a hit piece on Elon Musk?

Rather than being rude - read what I wrote: > "Are you talking about the original article?" You said "I have Elon hit piece exhaustion" - which sounds like you're referring to the posted article rather than the s

Are you talking about the original article? How is this a hit piece in any form? It doesn't even mention Musk by name.

I've got a mid-range Redmii Android at the moment and it's perfectly fine. I don't remember any stuttering on this or previous phones.

My objection wasn't the controversy - it was the lack of substance and focus. I wouldn't even call it particularly controversial. It's the same broad, general complaining you hear an awful lot around these parts. If you'

Seems a lot of words to express the underwhelming hypothesis that "Software is bad because young people are overstimulated". OK - I'm being snarky but I can't see much meat in this essay. Or much novelty. It's fairl

The article does mention unions twice but only obliquely. Definitely feels like a elephant in the room situation - and kind of odd for the Guardian of all places not to highlight.

I don't understand the connection you're making between SfM (Structure from Motion) and surface shading. I might be misunderstanding what you're trying to say. Could you elaborate?

Oh god, so far from it. I wouldn't even make it to the interview. I'm also many years past defending them in any meaningful way. But I do try and fight the gradual descent of HN into being a simulcrum of a mediocre tech subreddit.

OK people. We've enjoyed the "google cancels everything" quip for a decade or so and it's totally based on truth and they totally deserve to be beaten around the head with it. But can maybe not every comment here be a

True. There's a bit of a chorus of "So you want to steal people's lovely open source?" in this thread in response to anyone who has doubts that SSPL is the right way to do it. It's fine to disagree but at least ad

Yes but specifically mentioning AGPL would have been extremely relevant. It's something that often feels like a thing only licence geeks widely understand.

PostGIS was way ahead of the MySQL equivalent last time I checked. The plugin ecosystem is pretty astonishing. Foreign Data Wrappers... I'm not hands on so much any more but there were a lot of things back when I was.

This is about crawling for training data by the look of things. Not sure if the CHatGPT browsing mode uses a different user-agent but most of the entries in that list look like crawlers.

How about AI from non-companies? Or genuinely non-profit or open projects? Also - out of curiosity - do you use any AI yourself?

As someone who uses and benefits from the results of AI crawlers, I would only want to block crawls under very specific circumstances. I would back a general move to block crawlers from non-open models (whatever that means and if such a thi
