The white noise feature on the iPhone has become my regular companion in allowing for “covering up” unwanted sounds: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/background-sounds-iph...

I find as I get older my sensitivity to specific sounds seems to be increasing. In addition to some already mentioned: - the sharp beeping sound made by my elevator as it passes every floor. Ironically this apparently is an ADA requirement

One very local anecdote that seems to contradict this: my local Trader Joe’s is nearly always out of Impossible burgers. On many occasions, I have stood in line at the shelf where they are kept, waiting for the person who is unboxing them a

The pre-acquisition version of digg.com had many similar characteristics. The current version, sadly, does not.

I guess this depends on your definition of “rich.” Not to say 106k isn’t a lot of money, but as far as engineering annual salaries goes I’d say it’s in the mid to low range.

Yes, your brain is definitely the best password manager of all. My technique: Use a mnemonic of rhyming made-up words that are based on a childhood memory. Write it down several times, then shred/discard. Nothing sticks in your mind li

I only very infrequently experience the issues described in this article, and I definitely would not consider it torture. Re. the other comments about robocalls, I use the "Silence unknown callers" on my iPhone and it works quite

For me, I was mainly using the free Heroku Postgres for side projects. I tried some of those listed here but they were not a fit for me. I ended up going with cockroach db and am liking it so far, esp that I can easily create an unlimited n

I am not a cloud expert but so much of this rings true, esp the following quote: “Why is Bob in the ops team sending the engineers a bunch of shell commands they need to run to update their dev environment to support the latest Frobnicator

The downvotes in response to my question seems to imply a lot of people think a Musk acquisition would be a good thing. Maybe list some of the reasons why?

It really depends on if he follows through on what he is proposing, which seems to be to allow for disinformation and hate speech. If that turns out to not be the case, then I might reconsider.

If Musk acquires Twitter, I will likely be deleting my account. Am I the only one? Would his acquisition spell the beginning of the end for Twitter?

The article quotes an analyst describing Musk’s bid as the beginning of the end for Twitter as a public company. I would say it will spell the beginning of the end of Twitter period. Imo, if Musk in fact acquires Twitter, he himself and the

Is it possible that the solution is to look at why there is such a high frequency of commits by different devs into the same main branch? Rather than look for a technical solution I would explore process and culture changes, such as havin

Thanks for sharing that video. The white noise solution is a huge improvement over the sharp beeps. I looked into if there is any movement in the US re requiring the white noise option but all I found was this non-committal response from OS
