I find it interesting that I keep seeing these document-driven approaches to game development. You can also see this in some of the more advanced online DnD engines out there. Documents and update streams are simple but super powerful. I th

The two that I used to maintain personal connections and communicate in ways worth archiving were Myspace and Facebook. For Myspace I was a teen. Same with Facebook. My connections were from school so if either disappeared I'd just hav

I think there's a lot of honesty and practicality in your response but not the transparency or clarity needed for this to scale. These networks require buy-in / critical mass to function as intended, and not knowing if I (or my fr

I think the point is that many had other preferences, but our two party (and FPTP voting) system doesn't address them. Who I voted for in 2016 and 2020 weren't nearly my first choices, and I think that's a fairly common exper

A couple generations ago wasn't too far past the gilded age, and on the tail end of the Standard Oil empire, the Pinkertons, etc. Before that slavery and serfdom. The idea that power was only used exploitatively after financialization

I couldn't imagine navigating macOS without gestures. Great on touchpad, non-existent on any comfortable third-party mouse (the magic mouse is made for toddlers apparently.. I don't even have particularly large hands). Thankfully

That's what makes all of this so ironic to me. Social media platforms and their users (especially Facebook) are not left-leaning. That a vast majority of Twitter users feel he will improve it means that the bias is fictional.

They do, actually! All of the public help requests and feature suggestions have been in Jira since, like, the early 00s. It's weird to see when they pop up in Google results with ancient screenshots attached.

I'd be curious to see examples of these. I only know of Trump as having been banned. Plus I guess people who commit shootings tend to get memory holed by all the major social media brands, which might be a good idea? Thousands that you

I'm pretty far into a project to create a Typescript framework for turn and tile-based (think roguelikes) client/server games: https://github.com/chaos-framework . Mix of entity-component and event-driven design (i

All for compensating OSS devs, and doing so automatically and implicitly via contributors and the packages they built on is a neat idea. But the blockchain. Ugh. Going by the owner's blog, which is a bit more in-depth on his reasoning

Satisfactory was fun for a while, and I want to try the v5 features still, but even as an FPS vet I get headaches and frustrations trying to do accurate placement of buildings, let alone tightly optimal. Amazing graphics optimizations, cons

DSP is excellent. I beat it before Factorio, and liked it a lot more, but I then went back to Factorio to scratch the same itch and after beating it think it's a bit better. The modding support and multiplayer, especially, DSP is prett

Also wanted to pop in to recommend his Twitter. Watching these games get made has been a blast. Just the right mix of interesting math and creativity. I always dig into his blog posts and threads.

After Googling for an embarassingly long time I think I'm figuring out what gasket mounting is.. how does that meaningfully changed how the keyboard feels? Just makes the whole typing surface a little flexible / bouncy?

The most useful way for me to think about a rebase is "replay my commits over an updated branch, as though I started coding when those updates had already happened" So if you check out on day 0 and rebase on day 5, then it becomes

Yeah! More accurately just EC, no real systems here. Roguelikes are highly deterministic and are not real-time, so a system updating all its respective components for every "tick" wouldn't really fit. The biggest obstacle wit

Yeah, nothing in Factorio can quite match watching all of your solar sails and ships orbiting and snapping into place around the sun in the sky. Which you can also fly right up to and watch all the little details in person.

To anyone who loves Factorio as much as I do, I strongly recommend the new game Dyson Sphere Program. I never truly beat Factorio the way I did DSP, so I can't compare them completely, but DSP takes the concept to a 3D planetary scale

Vertical scrolling, and emulating the weird side-effects of the registers being written to, was the hardest part of recreating the NES using 3D meshes. It took me a few weekends to get Zelda 2's intro working reliably. I wrote about it

Radiohead were pioneers in social media announcements, between the sudden pay-what-you-want digital release of In Rainbows to, as far as I know, inventing social media blackout / cryptic profile picture shenanigans.
