Wow, the title here really down plays what it actually does. Wireless power has been around for a while, my electric toothbrush uses that. But scavenging power from existing RF in the environment, that's just cool :)

Go for it, it might work. I think there's a little more to creating a good site then just building and letting stuff happen. There needs to be something that binds the community and some way of keeping the focus. Otherwise it will just drif

The problem with this is that it fragments the community, you now no longer read "Hack News" but instead read "Stuntgoat News" which has a readership of 1. It may have some crossover with "Almost News" but I think it would be deferent enoug

Damn right. For anyone who hasn't figured it out yet, it is NOT ever ok to use your phone in a cinema during a film, even without sound. I find it unbelievable that so many people haven't figured this out yet. If you can't stand being disc

But it's written so well that it's a pleasure to repeatedly bang ones head against :) So go for it but expect to have to take it slowly... oh, and do the exercises otherwise it won't make sense.

Doesn't that just replace C-kC-y with C-cC-k? Given that C-cC-k is used by various major modes to do mode-specific killing this doesn't seem like a good trade.

This would be the editor of the incredibly awesome Princeton Guide to Mathematics. If you don't have a copy I would strongly recommend getting one.

Slightly off topic but I quite fancy playing some sort of text adventure again. Anyone got suggestions for a good one to start with?

A bug? Maybe. Worth a post to HN? Definitely not. Just email pg if you're concerned about it, it's pointless to post it here.

That looks pretty cool, thanks for pointing it out. It's certainly got a lot of what I had in mind although I think it would be more fun to make it a little more advanced. I can imagine it being aimed at more experienced programmers with th

I used to play a bit of ATRobots which is a similar thing except you program them in a "Robot Assembly" language. Lots of fun and taught the basics of ASM coding. I've been thinking for a while about a more complex form of this sort of game

Totally off topic. But 500 photos in a day!! I just don't understand why people's reaction to going to beautiful places is to spend the day looking down the view finder of a camera.

There's also ropemacs for Python auto-completion in Emacs. It also supports various automatic refactorings: http://rope.sourceforge.net/ropemacs.html It's not perfect but on the other hand it doesn't require that you run a tool to build t

Yes, you could enumerate all its characteristics and such to try and give the programmer an idea of how it will behave. Or you can just say "it's allocated on the stack" and much of that will be obvious. Seems like quite a good shorthand to

For creating graphs you might want to look into SciPy's Matplotlib. It's a graphing library based on Matlab's stuff. Pretty good if you want those sort of graphs. See: http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/users/screenshots.html Here are inst

Because sometimes it isn't right for the job? Haskell is absolutely awesome for some things (probably quite a lot of things in fact) but for some other things it's maybe not optimal. It's a lot of fun though, and if even it does nothing but
