Go for it, it might work. I think there's a little more to creating a good site then just building and letting stuff happen. There needs to be something that binds the community and some way of keeping the focus. Otherwise it will just drift to the lowest common denominator. I for one will definitely give it a good try though. Love the domain by the way, definitely sounds like a site I'd like :)
