> Anything that humans create, live or dead, is fair game to be used for any purpose deemed desirable by the creator. Does that same distinction apply to human children? The objection to animal testing or consumption isn't about the

I don't see any distinction at all. Can you elaborate? (I'm an omnivore that's relatively OK with animal testing, fwiw)

Fwiw a lot of people would argue that sacrificing one human for the benefit of many more is worthwhile. Not something to celebrate, but an acceptable tradeoff.

I mean the solution is straightforward: do what you want, just do it to (at least) minimum code. Hire someone if you’re not interested in taking the time to learn what minimum code is. It’s not particularly complex and is generally intuiti

I’ve read it. I’ve also worked residential construction. It is absolutely not better built than prefab sheds at orange or blue stores.

There's a difference between deploying a buggy Javascript app and running 120v electrical to a shoddy lean-to.

Did you run 120v to it? Are you inside of it for 8 hours a day? Is it 3 feet from your house? I'm all for hack jobs when the consequences are low. This is not one of those situations.

That's not the point. The point is that if you don't recognize the acronyms for non-metallic cable, comm multi, water resistant barrier, or oriented strand board, you should not be building a structure in a dense residential area

The middle ground is bringing in a mediator on your behalf that is a neutral party to the issue. I.e., get a lawyer.

I'm aware of technical debt and it's consequences. The point is that the vast majority of developers treat their job as creating good software, when it's absolutely not.

This modern softness is absurd. Let the Mona Lisa burn, let the Library of Alexandria burn, bomb the Louvre. It's ok, it's never worth harming someone to prevent. We'll be polite and refer to it as pacifism, but the truth i

By that logic it should be legal to kill people stealing things that are irreplaceable. Mona Lisa, Faberge Eggs, Mom's ashes?

I don't think the comment you're replying to applies to your concern about subpar employees. We blame processes instead of people because people are fallible. We've spent millenia trying to correct people, and it rarely work

Millenial homeownership is almost at 50% this year. The people priced out are the loudest, but it's not overwhelmingly common in most parts of the US.

They don't. It would mean no more risk premium and the involvement of people that could do a better job than them, but don't get involved in the trade for obvious reasons.

The reason cartels need to murder people at all is because the business is illegal and there is no justice system to mediate disputes. F500 CEOs aren't doing drive-bys on each other over patent infringements because they can just sue.
