I never really got into last.fm because Pandora is so good. I just recently started using Pandora again after a long break and it's even better than when I first started using it - I used to have thumbs down individual songs all the time to

Does that really go through a consumer's head at the point of purchase? Seems more likely that they'd think things like "ugh, not another site where I have to enter my credit card info - I wonder how trustworthy they are?" or if they're usi

Yes, that's definitely a big part of it - the fact that the same company can both provide a loan and then insure that same loan creates an ethical conflict of interest that calls into question their ability to objectively quantify risk, as

Holy crap - this is the most succinct explanation I've seen of the economic crisis: "The opponents of the measure gloomily predicted that by unshackling banks and enabling them to move more freely into new kinds of financial activities, th

What does "professional" mean in this context - matching the design of the shopping cart pages to the rest of the site? Some of those are better than others at doing that - my understanding is that Paypal is the easiest to skin and customiz

I see, so you like the idea of iteration on the policies that govern people, more than having specific freedoms. Makes sense, I wish we could open source bills for Congressional review, for example. It's funny you should mention Holland - I

But you're going to have to have laws and taxes of some sort to keep the mini-society going - how do you know they'll be ones you don't object to? There's plenty of countries around the world without the same laws as the u.s. and I don't se

Why would you be interested in living in a Waterworld city? No seriously, what's the draw? I'd feel pretty damn cooped up and imagine that it'd be like living on a houseboat in the middle of nowhere.

Wow, I've never seen YC fund a direct clone before. I'm not saying that's the case, it just really looks like it to a layperson. Foodoro looks very similar to Foodzie, just better executed (widgets, more shipping options, less cluttered d

There's a lot of tinyurl clones that basically do the same job, only focusing on providing redirects for long urls, but one that does more and that I've liked a lot recently is http://tr.im - it got me to switch after years of using tinyu

No offense taken and upvoted. I think the article oversimplifies things to a degree, so it's also a reflection of the author's viewpoint and in that sense almost comes across as rationalization. But that doesn't mean the points aren't corre

Why deal with the tv set? My even cheaper setup: live in a tiny apt where the home office is in the living room and just rotate the monitor towards the couch when you want to watch stuff online. Works especially well with an apple remote.
