I agree. But the business of companies like YCombinator is to simply bet on lots of inexperienced, green young people and hope some of them pan out. When they invite you to their program or (better yet) get you more funding, it probably fee

Wait, do you think that there aren't already 10s, maybe even a 100+ products out there with the same basic functionality as Highrise? Because there are. There were before Highrise, and now, after. There are more every year. The concept of a

S'ok. The point of "redheaded stepchild" is that nobody loves it cuz it's not THEIR baby. Making it the perfect metaphor for this product. :)

The real lesson here is a hidden one for YCombinator startups: YC gives you money, but they apparently do not provide you with advisors, handlers, lawyers or PR people who will intervene to stop you from making such a boneheaded, potentiall

First: Who said they are unwilling to receive feedback? Nobody here from Wildbit is going "ohnoes how dare you question us wahhh." Wildbit already made the decision. It's already happening. They've been working on it for months and months.

You need to have a coffee and lighten up. Nobody is making fun of redheads. 1. Lots of people think redheads are sexy. 2. The implication of "redheaded stepchild" is that "it's obviously not your kid" or possibly even a bastard. 3. I'm fat,

Do you think it's a good moral decision to continue taking your customers' money for something you will never improve much at all, because your heart's just not in it? I certainly don't think so.

googletron, are you familiar with the concept of opportunity cost? It's not idealist , as you say, to shut down a project that is a time and energy suck. It's idealist to think a busy company with 2 very successful, well-loved projects sho

Just because emotions are involved doesn't mean the decisions aren't based in logic. It is totally logical to shut down a project that nobody really wants to work on, and one that wasn't making enough to justify its continued existence. Eve

Background: I'm friends with the owners of Wildbit, and have watched the journey they took that led to shutting down Newsberry. Several times, over a couple bottles of wine, my husband and I advised them to "just shut it down"! Because my h

As for baking your time tracking / billing into "the bread," I couldn't agree more. You might like my app, Freckle, which makes it not only dead simple to use a timer or enter time by hand, but also has integration points for github & b
