Seeing a lot of comments about low salaries in Canada, is there anywhere outside US that salaries are that good in tech? London, I know is about half of US if you look at FAANG comps and you have higher taxation compared to a city like Seat

Cost of living is not the factor here, cost of labor is as others have mentioned. If not, for example London tech salaries would have been comparable to NYC/SF/SEA if you compare cost of living.

Japan gets talked about a lot but Taiwan and SK are doing worse if you see TFR. TFR of SK was below 1 in 2018, replacement level being 2.1. It would be interesting to see how this plays out in the next two decades over there considering the

Yeah, calling this a trend would be stretching this a bit. From what I have seen myself and heard from friends in other FAANG or other medium/big tech companies, a lot of employees prefer to work from office and are not liking the cur

I think he was talking about the value he generates, so possibly something like revenue/profit per employee kind of thing. For example, FB and Google make more than $1M revenue per employee. You can go more granular and look at the imp

Why do you need to buy the RSUs then? Don't you already get them once they vest.

Dropping the cliff period for new employees is pretty much useless. The equity/ESOPs new employees will be exercising will be of the last valuation price which would be already high, and after Covid-19, with the struggles of tourism in

Please don't post messages like these, it doesn't really help with the discussion. Also, just because maybe they have more folks from one ethnicity than most companies have on average, doesn't prove this argument. Lastly, sit

It feels bad that this happened to one of the companies with a very good engineering culture. The stuff they have put out in the open either on GitHub or through their blogs is a testament to that. I think any company will be lucky to have

What will that accomplish though? The way he described their auth APIs, you will be able to set an auth token generated by you for an account that you anyway have the user credentials for.

It depends on the data you are storing, using unique UUIDs for something like profile image(avatar?) is good enough, as I commented here the probability of a collision is so low that you can assume them to be not iterable for practical purp

Even I wouldn't recommend generating your bearer tokens client side if they are actually doing it, but collision thing is a bit far fetched. Any randomly generated UUID like UUID4 has a randomness in space of 2^122(ignoring pre determi

That is certainly different. I wonder if Instagram is resisting, lest it will lead to feature bloat.
