Yeah, If you are just watching videos rarely it can be tough to justify it. I still have some channels that I regularly consume plus travel and cooking/baking videos that I watch a lot so it made sense for me to pay for it.

I don't think YT should interfere. As I see it, YT is a pipe for content. If you pay for it through ads/subscription you are paying for the pipe not just the content. The content creator should be free to monetize their videos as

I personally think Google can continue at this pace as GCP value is still not unlocked completely. I can't comment on the other services but in my previous job we did shift a lot of compute instances stuff to GCP from AWS because of ea

I don't think we are talking about the same thing. I was talking about the protestors attacking cops of which there are a lot of videos on social media. The video I linked above shows them jumping from a fort to save themselves.

Sadly as much as I hate seeing essential communication links cut, though I don't have any data I am assuming a lot of people are going to buy in the public safety angle. It is not like the Indian state hasn't used that line of rea

As I wrote in my example, this intent based method works for a big advertiser which is making a mass market product; but say someone producing a niche artisan knitting needle which only say 1 in 100 people who are interested in knitting nee

Just quoting FB's wording and my hunch. As the other commenter gave an example, if you have a niche product which only a fraction of people would be ever interested in, it would help if you can know who those are, and restrict targetin

If ads are just restricted to intent based on page/video/query, small advertisers lose out on effectiveness but is this is a big issue for big advertisers? I have read FB engineers comment on HN that FB has a long tail of advertis

I actually like Waymo's cautious slow roll out of self driving compared to what Tesla seems to be doing. I agree with your larger point though. I don't know what Waymo is doing internally but we haven't seen a complete produc

Tesla might have been allowed because it works well for the auxiliary industries in PRC which in turn helps their own EV companies. Also, a cynical take. If Tesla has something worth copying, it might be easier as well.

Huh, that's a lot. With what happened with Jack Ma, I am not sure how comfortable outside companies are with holding that much stake in a company in PRC. News reports seemed to indicate even Tencent was under scanner along with Alibaba
