The cow farts are just a single issue with raising them for consumption. The bigger issue is a very poor calorie conversion. We have to use a lot more energy in food production when we consume beef rather than consuming the plant inputs dir

The article doesn't delve into the problems for people who speak English as a foreign language. I believe there is a lot more discrimination going on there versus two different dialects of English spoken by native speakers.

I doubt that. People who are ultra rich use money as a proxy for power, influence and status. In a post scarcity world money likely won't be a great way to attain status so the hope is that status will be obtained through other means l

This is akin to everyone’s dream to start a cozy, atmospheric coffee shop. These types of coffee bars fold very quickly or at best give founders years of servitude below minimum wage. The reason is that the type of behaviour this kind of es

I used to have FU money. Now I don't. Well, not entirely true - I still do but the lifestyle creep has snuck up on me as I wasn't deliberate in my spending. Made a couple of bad decisions like building a second home in a country w

This was solved in 1995 with WikiWikiWeb. Not sure why the bi directional links did not become more of a standard.

Yes, the inflation of ratings has been ridiculous. It's meaningless even in supposedly heavily guarded services like Audible. Just about every audio book is 4.3 stars out of 5 or higher. I just use what's behind the fractional num

Yeah, the "everything service" mentality is getting a little out of hand. The most recent, egregious example I heard of is the "language server" in VS Code. What used to be a plugin/library functionality has now bee

Icons are a bad idea. Words for short commands work better. In the olden days some UIs let you hide icon images and display the alt text instead. Those were very good UIs.

Yeah, no. First, all those things sans high DPI functionality existed in 1998. Second, most of Electron apps don't benefit from these theoretical advancements. Preemptive multitasking existed in 1998 and worked every bit as well as it

I wrote 3D visualization apps in 1998 using FLTK and OpenGL and the (statically linked) binary was less than 20 MB. I think my desktop had all of 64MB of RAM. It was snappier than a modern TODO app on Electron and far, far easier to write.

So does AWS. For just messaging there is SQS, SNS, Amazon MQ, Event Bridge, Kinesis, MSK and probably a couple more tied to product families like IoT and video streaming.
