/r/politics does have quality comments that also get upvoted. However, you have to dig through 90% of bad comments. For instance, you get one article about Trump's nickname for Sessions being Mr. McGhee. The comments decide t

Yes, and even places that are anti-racism, anti-sexism, and hate trump are often filled with emotionalism and thoughtless group think shouting. Comments decrying anything bad in a caustic way are near useless.

I think there is a very important distinction that needs to be made. The popular reddit experience is vastly worse than the customized reddit. It took me a while to realize that my reddit experience was vastly improved once I was very picky

"It’s that Facebook and other social media companies are feeding this epidemic of loneliness and social isolation." This is less about Facebook and more about people on the internet.

The essence of how much you get compensated is that it relates to supply and demand. The smaller the supply of people with certain skills and the higher the demand, the overall greater compensation. There are two factors that influence the

You raise a great point. I would add, however, that doing this explicitly and systematically is much worse. In the US we are far from systematically banning people from riding the subway if they don't share the correct political views.

What utter rubbish. All this says is that "sociologists out there disagree hence you are wrong". The post is one giant appeal to authority. There is no discussion of why they disagree. Or that there is a consensus, or that differe

Again, the question is whether or not there can be consent, not whether or not there is a power differential. The existence of a power differential doesn't necessarily mean there can't be consent. Citizens consent to, for instance

There is a moral blame you have for asking Bob to punch me, but you aren't going to spend an evening in jail for assault, Bob is. In this entire scenario, you are assuming Bob has no agency.

But what are rights to begin with? Take this as purely a devil's argument and not something I am advocating, please. Let's take a 30 year old and a 15 year old. We accept in a society that two 15 year olds can consent to sex to ea

Advocating genocide is not violence. You can have someone on the internet yelling to kill all the muslims but if they never actually throw a punch, they are not committing violence.

Advocacy =/= Violence. This is one of the worst ideas of our century, that the words themselves cause injury akin to bodily harm. There should be a power struggle at the implementation level of ideas. This is where violence may or may

No, we don't base our morality on what politicians say. But if a mere 4 years ago leaders were 'opposed' to gay marriage, you cannot in good faith or in fairness to any conversation call a person who doesn't support it n

It's not a specific problem as it is--aside from propaganda in general. But if the ads purchased by Russians are linked to a direct promise of aid to the Trump campaign then that is solid evidence in court of collusion.

In general, I don't see a problem with targeted ads. For consumers, I think it is a positive. I want to be made aware of products that I will actually like. Even for political issues, I want to be put in touch with the candidates and o

Thanks. I think the idea I had in my head was this: If p=t or p!=t is decidable in ZFC+AoC, then it must be that p=t because otherwise that contradicts that the continuum hypothesis is undecidable. So a better way to sum up this result is:

If you take the power set of an infinite set, you /always/ get a cardinality bigger than the original set. So there are an infinite number of infinities.

I am having trouble grasping the result. As far as I understand it, any proof of any result has to be with respect to some axiom system. The continuum hypothesis result is that you cannot prove a infinity exists between the naturals and the
