If tapping an icon on a home screen takes the tablet a fraction of a second just to provide visual feedback for that, I'm sorry, but this is simply not a good tablet. Not anymore, not with iPad in the picture.

Oh, you are not alone :) In fact this is a fairly typical problem of people working alone and with no external feedback. Things like killing a day to decide how to name a temporary variable is a bane of lonely programmer. Next time when you

London is a much larger city with what seems like a lower quality of life for many people. Basically the number of potential rioteers in London is way higher than in Vancouver, so it is logical that their riots will be stronger and longer

So what was the trigger that started the riots?

Looked at the link, and what do you know "Top N things something" is on the third spot of apparently notable news feed. I appreciate digg's efforts to stay relevant, but I'm sorry, this is not a news wire.

As per usual I guess - better user interface, better marketing, better affiliate programs, etc. Though it'd be nice to have a look at their YC application to know what they thought themselves :)

Domain name is a bit too edgy, it is quite easily misread as "transparent tit solutions". This certainly needs fixing, because this unintentional innuendo set a completely wrong tone for anyone clicking the link. Site-wise - two things. 1.

Very few people in distress can coherently answer an open-ended question such as "what can we do for you?" It also puts her in a position of, basically, asking a favor, and this is not something that a hurt person would be inclined to do. G

What does "doing business in the US" mean exactly? If my servers are in Peru and someone from Texas signs up to use my webserver monitoring service, I am not exactly doing business in the US, am I? I understand if I ship something tangibl

FWIW The Vancouver Sun is a reputable newspaper by reasonable ethical and reporting standards. They do lack an interesting material to write about now and then, but then which newspaper does not.

Ignoring the triviality of the question itself, I am frankly more stunned by the responses. I assume it is a problem with Forrst demographics rather than a general state of affairs in modern programmer circles. Is it not?

I'm sure Adobe will be happy to hear about this patent as well. It pretty much describes adaptive encoding in media streaming applications... and it is ridiculously generic.

There is a good expression for cases like this - To break is not to build meaning it is much easier to break something than to build it in the first place. And it holds so very true for virtually any networked app or service.

Trivial stuff, really. Useful to know - sure. Worth several pages of the blog post - hardly. Now let's see the HN fanboism in action. It is Jacques' after all.

Without knowing what's included in the core of the language and what comes as constructs on top of it, it is hard to get impressed with these examples. I see them as an equivalent of giving STL-heavy examples when trying to impress someone

I was advised (heh) to get some "strategic" people on board as advisers, never got around doing it, and never had any regrets. YMMV, but I suspect you are overthinking the situation.

Flip through http://cardobserver.com to get some ideas as to what is available in terms of original design. Most of entries has links to their designers and printers.

On average it is anywhere between $500 and $1500 for the quality stuff that comes with a great concept and great execution and that is result of an iterative refinement process between the designer and the customer.
