You can't steal what is freely given away! I hate when people claim using BSD licensed code is stealing. It's not just a lie, it's a total perversion of freedom itself.

It takes a long time and lots of work to replace things like the gcc toolchain, purge pour code of gcc'isms, test, debug, add missing or equivalent features.

Except that other licenses already do that. The BSD license allows anyone to do what they wish with that BSD licensed code. Nothing happens to the original BSD licensed code just because someone uses it in a closed product. It's still

Correct. But they used the gcc compiler toolchain, plenty of GPL gnu utilities and libraries. All replaced with BSD licensed rewrites now.

It's not just Apple. FreeBSD for the last several years has been purging itself of GPL software as well. Going so far as to go through the pain of yanking out gcc for the llvm suite for the OS and ported applications.

It's an order of magnitude worse because we don't have "indias daughter" types of barbaric savage animalistic rapes/torture/murders occurring almost with shocking frequency. The level of barbarism inflicted on

The government doesn't really rule in India. It's a circus show. They can't solve the rape problems, poverty, crime, pollution. They lack any power to enforce any laws on the people when the cops are constantly on the take

My wife is from noida, a suburb of Delhi. Her mother, brother and other family live there in the NCR area. We talked to her mom two days ago and she says it's so bad now she can't even see the road when she goes out in an auto. He

Really? If you're going to downvote it I at least expect you to point out the flaw in my comment. It's a little hard to argue it's not factually accurate so I'd like to hear why you downvoted it.

It's interesting to me that everyone seems to think all world currencies are not dying. The problem is the "currency" the worlds been sold into. Case in point... it takes us all about an average of $2.00 dollars for a gallon

It is not just a version of FreeBSD. The base is FreeBSD but the tooling for containers is not stock. It's value added bits that are shaping up to be very nice for containers on a more stable, secure, and storage friendly stack.

Servers can be inexpensive. It really depends on your use case. You don't have to drop 50K on a box to make a killer ZFS storage array.

I assume you are referring to the same limitations almost every FS on earth to date suffers from when you consume about 90% capacity? What a useless comment. If you are running out of capacity adding disks to a zpool is incredibly mind numb

You also wouldn't get the same I/O performance a stripped mirror will give you. You can get extra resiliency using a three disk mirror. Disk is cheap. There's no reason to design like it's not.

I agree with this. SmartOS would be my choice over Solaris. I think FreeBSD is getting there. With things like Tredly. The building blocks are solid and available they just lack some polish. So if you have the skill FreeBSD. Otherwise Smart

"Issues with storage" is an understatement. Linux has major issues with storage. I see no way forward for Linux in that area unless they adopt ZFS. How many filesystems has the Linux world created in the last 20 years? Of those ho

This is all false. The reason the US suddenly wanted to kill Assad is very simple. Qutar has natural gas. Europe relies almost solely on Russia for natgas. The west doesn't like that at all. So they want to build a pipeline from Qutar

You can use Samba with it. Unless you absolutely require NFS, samba is far more robust and less prone to needing to be hard rebooted.
