The subjects quizzed are on page 9 in [this pdf]( https://www.pnas.org/content/pnas/suppl/2019/03/12/181464611... ) seems pretty general.

This is something I never considered. I always assumed that the main reason US software engineers are better paid is there is a (perceived? real?) benefit to being close to businesspeople / close to the customers / close to the cu

Have we already forgotten about the ink girl who was disappeared[0] barely a month ago? All she did was say things and now she's gone. Probably forever. This is absolutely not disputable. [0]: https://www.taiwannews.com.tw&#

As someone who has worked at Tesla and a couple startups, there's never been anything in their contracts about other jobs as long as it's not with a competitor. I encourage everyone to push back against wording that is more restri

$300 an hour is about 600k/year. In many cases, this is actually probably a good estimate for developer opportunity cost for the company . My working career is only a couple years old at this point so I'm more junior but in bot

I've been thinking a lot lately that, given the general complexity of building software/hardware and our ambitions for what computers ought to be able to do, there should be a much larger percentage of the population working on bu

I should have been more precise in my language. It’s legal to rent out a room for less than 30 days in NY if the owner/tenant is also occupying the place.

I like the sentiment of this but Elon isn't the right person. He hates all things mass transit.

I don't think SO questions is the best way to gauge the popularity of a language and especially not a package. I big reason why Pandas is so popular is because its API is so complicated. I probably have 10x more experience using Pandas

Developers have a lot of power here. Encourage others not to use anything that's BSD + Patents. If, in 2 years time, Vue is more popular than React and Facebook perceives PATENTS is the reason why, it could well vanish. This is a great

Is it a Facebook project though? The announcement says in collaboration with Facebook. That's an unusual definition of the word collaborate.

This seems to also have the BSD + Patents beloved by Facebook[0]. The virus is spreading. [0]: https://github.com/facebook-atom/atom-ide-ui/blob/master/PAT...

Yes. If a similar scale thing were to happen in the U.S. banking system, 1% would be 160 billion dollars, not 16. I'm amazed that otherwise intelligence people really believe this is a better system than fiat currencies + banks.

What a strange comment. Why do you think this has anything to do with racism? Is anything claiming an Asian country is doing better than a white country Yellow Peril? If not, why is this an instance of it?

This makes sense because the last day last year to file on time was the 14th or 15th whereas this year it was 17th. Returns will probably be higher this year once you account for that last weekend + Monday.

I guess the way to benchmark browsing to get most realistic numbers would be to record normal browser behavior of a decently-sized sample of people (say 1000) and automatically repeat the behavior of a representative subsample (10-50 may be

I feel like this is a new golden age in being a blackhat. Back 5-10 years ago there was no IOT and all databases were password protected by default. Now we have: 1. IoT with basically no security 2. No(Auth)SQL. Also, dev time has become so

No it isn't. Amazon owns the majority (although not all) of the products sold on its platform. Airbnb owns 0% of the houses put up for rent on their platform.
